The Fish Father is in need of modelers!! Imagine... A map that completely immerses you into the life of a fish, a compelling story wrought with danger and big fish. You drift lazily over the top of coral polyps and sunken wrecks. You nibble lazily at the seaweed, then to your horror, shadows envelop the sunlight filtering down. They have come. The barracuda mob strike through the shadows, decimating the population of 'The Great Beds' in seconds. One group of tiny fish were missed in the onslaught. That was their greatest mistake. You must avenge your family, however the barracuda mob can not be taken by one small fish. You are small and puny, to grow, you must feast. You must use your scheming mind as well as your teeth. A fish lazily floats next to you, you are of no concern and it is not hungry. You lash out, tearing and biting with small sharp teeth. Beads of bright red blood float in the tranquil water. Far away, a keen nose can smell the blood. A shark, mighty and powerful, plunges through the water and tears at the fish, driven mad by the smell. The fish is too small for the shark, it leaves in search of larger prey. The fish's small carcass floats listlessly. You swoop in to gorge on the remains. Soon you will be stronger and larger. You must gain in size and in social status, to recruit your own mob and to defeat the murderers of your kin. You must become 'The Fish father' If this interests you and you want to join, I am looking for: * Advanced Triggerer * Animator * Modeler Also there will be temporary jobs you can fill, if you don't want to be commited, you can do maybe 1 model or give one to the cause ;) . Also if you want any more information, I will be willing to explain anything you are confused or wondering about. ![]() |

You will start off with a small sized fish, for each fish you eat, you will gain 1 size xp point. At certain amounts of size points you may increase in size and power or even evolve. The larger the fish you eat, the more size xp points you will gain. To be able to eat somone, you have to kill them down to a certain amount, then they will be made invulnerable and their death animation will be played, they can't move. You can then eat them. If you do not eat them in a certain amount of time, they will go back to their normal state. The combat will be tactical, you can change your 'swimming' height, and certain heights will give you certain advantages. If you attack somone from when you are higher than them, your 'swimming' height will change to theirs and you will have a certain negative effect, maybe slower movement and attack speed for a certain while. However if you attack somone from below, you will have greatly increased attack and movement speed for a set time. If you are at around the same height nothing will happen. It will be in a large map, ranging from detailed coral reefs to wide expanses of ocean. There will be creeps in the map for you to eat and grow larger. However these creeps will not change size or evolve, certain parts of the map may be the hunting grounds of different type and size of fish. You will be able to get fish to join your gang, if the fish is smaller than you, it will most likely join your gang. If it is too small, it will see you as a threat and will run away. Certain factors will also account for who gets into your gang for example, species. If the fish is bigger or the same size as you, it will want a fight to nearly the death, to prove your worth. You must kill them down to the invulnerable, motionless state and then protect them until they revive. If the fish is a lot bigger than you, there is no point trying to get it into your gang, you will be eaten. However very large fish will not eat small fish, as there is no point, it will not satisfy their appetite. On a side note, if there are any positions you feel could be useful and that are not on the list, post here and I will tell you if it is needed. |

I admire your imagination, an underwater map. I'm in awe. When I first started reading this I hate to admit that I was in the "What the f*ck is this crazy guy thinking." But when I saw that glorius screenshot and read more into it I started to love the idea. I'd like to help, but I'm not sure of how much I can be. I know triggers, slightly advanced, and I can skin. Hopefully I can be of some service. |

Thanks for the replys, anyone able to do triggers helps with the project, as it spreads the workload, to seriously get starting on the project we would need a modeler, however I would be grateful for you to join. In the meantime while we wait for a modeler, if anyone comes up with gameplay ideas they have, we can see if we can implement them into triggers and have maybe a few parts of the game done before the models are put into it. Eg. we could make the combat part without models, we could just have peasants or something as characters and replace them later. I have a small part of the combat done, like changing height with up and down keys, but I have not got the parts about how when you attack from certain heights you get certain positive or negative effects. If anyone wants to have a try at that, ill post up what I have so far and then maybe you could add a few parts to it. So if anyone has any ideas about gameplay then post em here! On a side note, there seems to be slight trouble with fog. It is sweet for taking screen shots with, but it is hard to get it realistic. I have found two fog values and they are each perfect for different circumstances. Because you can change your fishes swimming heigh, the camera height has to change also. When you are swimming up high, the water should be lighter, when you are swimming down low, the water should be darker. I have found one value that does that, but the problem is it seems to conform to the terrain, eg. a large wreck sticking up will be blue when viewed from the shallows. For more information about the fog problem I have a post in the terrain forum. I didn't know if that would affect gameplay but if you guys could find a value that would work I would be grateful. |

Hmm can you guys create tilesets as well as skin units? If you can this map would need a new tileset as there are no good default ones. Sure, sure the sunken ruins has sand, but a real sea has variation. The tile set would contain: -Light sand (A lot finer and lighter than the sunken ruins one) -Regular sand(The sunken ruins sand) -Rocky sand -Icy Sand (Or whatever would be in the arctic seas in the north and south of the map) -Sunken ruins base tileset for submerged atlantis type cities -Any other things that you think could be used Hopefully you are able to do this. :D |

I'll be happy to donate this if you want to use it. I made it a very long time ago and it's sitting on my HD collecting dust. It's ~350 polys: ![]() ~kharma |

I'd love to join this team. I am good at creating units, items, and coding triggers. If you decide to let me help, email me at [email protected]. And I must say, this is by far the most original idea I've seen in awhile. |

Another thing that will need a lot of ideas on is spells. Im not too great at thinking up ideas for spells, so could some people just post a few ideas and maybe what to base it off. Each unit starts with one ability. Each time you eat a fish of say lvl 1, you get 1 size point, a lvl 2, you get 2 size pts. At certain amounts of size points, your fish will increase in size and power or even evolve. When your fish evolves, it will be a different fish that is in the same class : Eg. Mako Shark-Great White Shark. When it has evolved, it has the basic ability of its class as well as a new one. Maybe 5 evolutions for each fish or less, so there will be quite a few spells. Also each spell has to fit to the class it is, there is no point having a 'poison spine' spell on a shark. Ok heres a few ideas. Crab Class: Bubbles - The crab blows bubbles out of its mouth that pop and hurt the enemy. Trapping bubble - The crab blows a large bubble which traps the unit inside it, making it unable to move. Claws of Fury - The crab goes into a frenzy attacking all nearby targets for a short period of time. Exoskeleton - Passive spell increases armour Lobster class: Poisonous spines - The lobster shoots out poisonous spines in all directions(similar to fan of knives. Exoskeleton - Passive spell increases armour NOTE: You don't have to spend ages thinking of a name to post the spell, just have a name basically saying what it does and we will think of better names later. This thread will be edited to contain all of the spells for each class as we come up with more. |

will skin (gimme the map and ill texture it :D ) |
| 03-20-2004, 04:56 AM | #13 |
Texture it as in create custom tileset or as in put the terrain textures in certain parts of the map? Ok sweet, happy to have you, that would probably be enough skinners for now. |

Ok, I have been having a think about what units we'll be using, playable and non-playable. The models and skins needed will be for: Lobster class (Playable): No models or skins needed. Crab class (Playable): No models or skins needed. Turtle class (Playable): No models or skins needed. Fish class (Playable): Many models and skins needed. The fish class may be split into 2 sub-classes Manta ray (Non-Playable): Skin needed of Coutl say if you're going to do it and I will give you some details about what it should look like. (Or just use your imagination) :D Sea Anemone (Non-Playable): Model and skin needed. Shark class (Non-Playable): Skin/(s if possible) needed once I get the model from Kharma Barracuda (Non-Playable): Model and skins needed. Penguin and seal (Non-Playable: No model or skin needed. |
