Just a few editor terrain-screens...

http://www.geocities.com/wc3mercuria/

I'm not a big modder obviously, I'm just a humble mapmaker. :) These screens aren't real impressive eye-candy shots that are seemingly popular here (rightfully so). I moreso concentrate on terrain that works well in a playable campaign scenario, but is still appealing and natural-looking.

There are definitely some experts here, thus I could appreciate some constructive criticism. :)

Thanks in advance!

If it´s for a campaign its good..
but anyway you could use more doodads.
But there´s a good feeling you´ve got whit so few doodads and a so easy-played terrain :D

Really, are you sure? I'm afraid it'll get too cluttered, taking away from the neccesary maneuverability. I'll definitely put your advice into action when I'm designing cinematic-only areas, however.

Regardless, thanks a lot for checking out the screenshots.

I like the water bits, the mixing the "deep" and "shallow" and the resulting lighting interplay. As far as doodad;s (environmental or otherwise), go outside and take a looke at a stream/lake/pond in your area and take a page for nature. I feel that environmental doodad's work best when they are subtle / understated.

I agree. This just gave me an idea. Perhaps I'll shrink some rock doodads down very small, just for a stony-ground appearance.

This stony-ground 'texture' would probably look good on river beaches and swamp cliffs.

i understand what ur saying.. but really think about it, real ponds are cluttered, however you might want to put say weeds arpund the trees and some cat tails......oh yeah dont forget some vines and........damn i forget what there called.......ummm....oh yeah lilipads(the darkones) by the river bushes

thats nice, it does look better with the doodads. Now make your campaign terrain like that. I think you could also use a different kind of tree, and it would look better. GJ, keep up the good work :D

Honestly, I like the first screenshot better. Those dead trees make the swamp look like some sort of eerie graveyard. Although it may be against popular opinion, I think there's more to making realistic terrain than just massing environmental doodads. Nonetheless, I've learned a few techniques from studying your own screenshots. Thanks a bunch for the demonstration! :)

Hey, I uploaded two more screenshots...

http://www.geocities.com/wc3mercuria/

Here are a few screenshots of an evil forest I'm working on. I'm aiming to create a dark forest full of plague, mutation, and ancient knowledge. I'll get some closer screenshots soon after I do some more touch-up work.

Yeah I'll get bigger screenshots in a few days or so, I just want to finish a few more things up. This location will be critical for the storyline of my campaign, so the 'knowledge' part will already be taken care of. Style-wise, however, the crypt doodad looks pretty cool.
