How do I extract the .mdls so I can change them and the paths in them? Because for example I want to have both the footman and a skinned footman, so in order to have two of the same unit I have to import a new model with the paths changed. How do I extract the mdls? Thanks (sorry if this is the wrong forum) |

Use yobgul's mdx <---> mdl converter. I believe if you use the search page to look for "yobgul*", you'll find a thread providing the download, as well as answers to a bunch of common questions/issues. |

extract the mdx with a mpq program, convert with yobgul's mdx <---> mdl converter then up with notepad and the find a sections that says textures then find where it says the footman's path the change it to what you want then save it as What-Ever.mdl then convert back to a mdx then import into WE then in object editor go to footman then right click then click copy unit then in the new unit find where it says art - model then the in the model click the radio button and then select your model, place in game and enjoy. |

K, try this. Make a back up of your war.exe and replace then use this one. |

Hmm, i followed what you guys went threw, but now I have this problem after I have replaced the original War3 like you said: " The ordinal 744 could not be located in the dynamic link library War3.exe." so what do i do? Thanks for any help. |

Hmmm... I had exactly the same problem as Aznwhore, the File Converter couldn't find this game.dll and when I pasted the War3.exe I got the same message as JoBobthe4th. Glad I made a backup... Oh, and once I extract the .mdls, can I change them freely with any text/hex editor? Or do they need another conversion? Thx for the help. :D |

You might want to do another search of the forums (not by hand, of course - use the search page). I'm pretty sure the thread that has the link to the converter also answers many of the technical issues that *everyone* has with the program, and I'm positive that I've seen a thread addressing the "ordinal could not be located" issue. |
