Help with Skinning/Editing

Okay I have some questions about skinning. Most people have probably asked them but I still need to know.

1. When I try to add something like blood onto a model, or load a model altogether, everything screws up. I tried adding armor to a model, then saved it right (I think), then tried to put it on the map it was a checkered green cube. I saved the map and opened it again and it was still a cube. Does anyone know of an in-depth tutorial on how to save an icon and open it onto a map?

2. My other question is how do you create an icon from scratch. How does the game designate the legs, head, arms, etc? I read a tutorial but it did not help. Can someone send me a good model making link plz? A good skin editing tutorial would be nice too ^_^ .

3. My final question is how do you put this all together? If you download a model/skin how do you use it? If someone can help me with these I will give them credit on the map I make with all these.

Thanks to anyone who replies w/ link(s) or helps me out! :D

2. Ok, are talkin about your normal icons?
http://www.wc3campaigns.com/files.ph...le&file=701&s=
thats a blank icon. Draw in it. It's all about drawing skill on a paint program.

3. Alright, lets say we got a custom Arthas model that has a crown and skin. We got two files:
*Arthas.mdx
*Arthas.blp
What we do is we first take care of the model. Open WE, open the import window. Import the Arthas.mdx file. Give it a custom path like
Units\Human\ArthasCrown\ArthasCrown.mdx
now open the object editor and go to where you edit units. Here (just for example) choose athas's flie. Go down the list of blah blah blah and you'll see a part that says model file. double click and edit what model file it uses.
Now you take care of the skin. import the blp and set a path. Give it the same path as the model and it should work. If not then tell me. there are other ways
