I would just like to know how long it takes my fellow artists to draw the scetch-part of a avarage drawing (scetch-part=the absolute base of the drawing just before the lineart). I'm really curious... (Because I have no idea how long it actually should take) |

I take it you want replies from the "good" artists... but for me it takes about 2 min on my small ones and longer on the bigger ones... on the rest I just skip it completely. icbm1987 |

Sketchin jst for the sake of sketchin jst to c the possible designs and stuff and to try out things before making the real thing... takes me 30min max of doodling designs... as for drawing the real thing (before makin clear lineart and cleaning it) takes about 2hours... depending... |

for me, it really depends on the drawing. an average doodle on the margin of the paper at school..... about less than a min. but in art class, when i actually draw something.. i take my time.. like up to 3 class periods working on the same thing.. so thats about 4.5 hrs. lol.. but thats when i have to do a still life and shade like hell.. or paint some weird object. i tend not to rush.. other wise it turns into crap. but for most of the stuff i posted on here... nothing more than 30 mins. most of the time.. 20 mins. |

I thumbnail stuff before I draw the final version, so each thumbnail takes about... 1-5 min, and then I usually fill up several pages with thumbs, and then I pic the thumb I like best and then sketch that out, which takes about 10-20 minutes. |

I'm 'bout the same as Candy. Depends on the size, but my "to-be-coloured" sketches take a couple of hours. Doing smaller ones, just a few inches tall (but 'finished' quality), takes about 20 mins. |

My sketches take anywhere from five minutes to several hours; it all depends on how much detail I'm sketching out before I do the inking. |

tough question because i never keep track how long i draw or doodle. you can say up to 30 minutes for a "to-be-colored" sketch. because i draw one almost every period |

im not quite sure what your asking sketches for designs or construtive sketch before rendering . For designs I usally make small thumbnails then make a bigger design. Construtive drawing is like when you sketch a stick figure or blocky figure before actully drawing the figure. After you draw the figure you add clothes and finish For construtive drawing, I tried it now on copy machine paper ,and it takes me about a minute. It really depends on the size of the paper and subject. for example I can draw a good blocky standing figure in about a min, but it might take me longer for foreshortened or twisting figure. For really accutrate drawings, Im talking about still lifes and life drawings, it takes me a hell of long time like 30min to an hour, because I do that measureing thing where you measure poportions with a pencil at arms length. That crap is a real pain in the ass. It's all about the construction. If you have a good solid construction sketch it so much easier to draw. You will spend less time erasing and fixing things, and spend more time on drawing. |

i really have no ideea.... depends on how many times it takes me to get a pose right! but usually, for a good finished drawing, it takes looooong... ^^~! i think its a bit of a silly question actually OO |

It really varies upon how complicated the sketch is. Especially if it is something you have not tried before, it will take longer. It also depends on your mood. Sometimes you are a lot more tolerant towards flaws. Sometimes nothing seems right. If you are looking at a picture you want to copy, it usually takes a long~ time. The more time you spend on the sketch, the more complicated it will look. So it really depends on what you want out of that sketch. |

Off topic: Wait a minute... Candy's a mod??? Congrats :D On topic: I was meaning the scetching before the "real" work, since I tend to spend to little time on scetching (witch makes my drawings kinda crappy :/), and I wanted to know how much time you guys spend so I could force myself to spend more time on the scetching-part-thingy... Thanks for contributing to my lil' survey :D ...(Candy's a mod? ...Didn't saw that coming) |
