(con't) Projects News: |]arkOne already caught me out at this forum and made a comment on my apparently pointless spam. But just to let everyone know I haven't gone completely nuts, the Project News subforum will soon be linked to a secondary news page. It will act just the same as this page, but all project leaders will be allowed to freely post updates/patches/etc. on their mods/maps/campaigns themselves without having to go through a rigorous 'is this news deemed worthy of the front page?' check or extensive waiting period for someone to post it for you. Of course, there will still be some rules, but they won't be as rigid (Electromancer, the Project Managing Director, will be able to brief the new rules more elaborately). This 'Project News' page will be linked to the main navigation access points of the site to help direct traffic to it and get people more interested in what our hosted projects are up to. This way you'll be able to quickly find updates on your favorite map or campaign in a snap. Developers' Corner: This is a quick note on behalf of Cubasis40 that he will be making some modifications to the Developers Forum structure some time over the next couple of days, so don't get too worried if things get a little weird for a bit. Cub will make an announcement on the new section arrangements detailing the forum changes once he's complete. And now for the big one: The store - While I can't give a definitive answer on when we will be finished, I can list a few of the new options available, and new methods to earn points. A ballpark estimate could be anywhere between a few days to sometime next week, but rest assured we're working our darndest :). Also, please remember these new options along with others are still being considered and may not end up making the cut. Some ways to earn Points: • Submitting tutorials: When a submitted tutorial of yours is approved for the tutorial section an arbitrary amount of points will be forwarded to your account based on the quality of the work. • Submitting files (maps, icons, skins, models etc.) to the downloads section: Same as tutorials. • Answering a forum query: In some forums where mod-related questions are commonly asked, the thread starter will have an option to give a set amount of points to the user that answers their question. This will be as simple as viewing the thread you started and checking a box next to the user who has replied you with a sufficient response. Some (new) ways to burn away your hard-earned points: • Rent-a-banner: I'm sure everyone's noticed the nutty temp banners xttocs and I drew up in the header on the main page (Do you like pie?). More than a just place where Hosted Projects can display their own advertisements (when we finally get some from them, hint hint!), users who are not hosted here will still be able to purchase 'ad space' for a limited time. This will allow anyone to get an advertisement for their own little projects added into the rotation. You can add a link to your forum, website or Official Map thread here on the forums to help get your project out there. • Buy a Project Post: Based on the same idea as banners, this will allow non-hosted project leaders to post news about their map/mod/campaign. • Specialised usergroups: We only have a basic framework for this, but the concept is to allow users to actually create their own unique usergroups ie. 'Terrainers Guild' or '1337 h4x0rs 0f th3 w0rld!' In effect, these will work slightly like clans, and initiating a group will generally involve a few people to pool their points together to set it up. After that, other users can be invited to join the group for a nominal cost. Apart from being in a class of your own, each group will have access to a private forum on the site in which only other members of the same group may view and reply. Also, people will be able to view what group you're in simply by checking out your profile. Well that about wraps it up for the moment (I think). We'll try and keep you guys posted on things as best we can. Once we've finished messing with the templating for the Night Elf theme, we'll start working on the other ones. But for now, it's back to the cage for me... ~kharma |

Thanks for the information. I would say more but I am getting a little tired and I fear my grammar and such may suffer from it. |

This is the thing that arises my curiosity. Do you have to give your own points to the other person, or do you say, "you gave a good answer, so you get the points" but you never actually have to give your own points? I happen to like the second option better because you can get a lot of points just by answering questions. I am also fairly certain that most people (like me, for instance) are too err... whats the word... stingy to give their points away just for a simple answer. However getting the second option to actually work would be difficult because im sure several people would cheat the system and just give 100000 points to their friend when they respond to the question. I suppose one way to avert this would be to limit total points given to say... 25. But of course you could be deciding to do it your own way... in that case ignore this post. Anyway I can't wait to see what's going to happen... good luck making everyone happy ;) ... |

for el post above, what if they DONT give you any points? no matter what? what if it was a really easy question, and you give a simple answer? i mean no ones gonna post 10 paragraphs on how to use warcraft 3 viewer... avatar ladder? whats with that? why cant we just have our own custom avatar, these new ones WILL, and is ALREADY encouraging lots of spam, *cough* ICBM AND ERWTENPELLER *cough*... for the store, maybe we could bye a bigger signature limit? ppl would like that for the store, do we still get the option to buy an avatar? (and also climb the ladder thing) |

Alright... wtf is wrong with you??? You can stop defaming us now... We need the "report this post to a moderator" function back so that people like shadow here don't blow a gasket. I'd rather not have to deal with this heirarchy or avatars issue... I guess I'll just have to help out alot... oh wait, I don't know anything about all these crazy apps cause I'm on a mac and can't use them... whoopdy doo. This is the premier Warcraft Modding site... and I'd much rather stay here... but everything is going all wrong... I'll never get a custom ava because of this new point system. Albeit it's a good change... but I can't really help with all this stuff. I've made up my mind then... time to be on my best behavior so that I can be a mod. icbm1987 |

People.... Johnfn. The original idea was of moderators moderating stuff more, and having a button besides each post. If he notices that someone did a good job explaining/helping someone, he'd press that button. That would cause a imediate 10 points to be given to the helper, and all his buttons in that thread would be disabled (so he doesn't get multiple rewards by many moderators accidently). However, as many underestimated the moderators ability to do this properly enough, a thought was just to allow the thread starter to specify this. And this would be 10 points summoned from the site. So this is nothing they them-selves would need to worry about. All of this is not set in stone yet though. Shadow_Strike Spam won't help them to get more points, and thus, won't help them to get better avatars. And....didn't you read kharma's complete newspost? I thought he made that clear. You CAN indeed buy a Custom Avatar in the shop, It's a one-buy thing for 500 points. So when you get 500 points, you can buy it, and then you can change it when-ever you want without paying a thing. icbm1987 I would hope you know something at all about World Editor, if not, then "you having a mac" isn't a excuse for not knowing about it. I don't really know myself what will happen for The Artist Corner :/, and how the point system will work there. I guess i'd want moderators to effectively reward activity (artistic activity), wether it be posting ones work or giving constructive critizism, but....that we've yet to think about. Cubasis |

I'll fiddle around with it later... there's some bug in my system that makes it crash after about 20 min... it's weird. I'll figure something out. icbm1987 |

It's nice that we have all these features and things to buy, it's a shame I don't have any points. Must start making maps. |

When submitting the download section shows a lot of valid extensions but not w3x and w3m, and about the update it is really good so stop complaining. |

Hey... one more thing. Can we have the option of changing our titles again? And can it be free this time? Pretty please? icbm1987 |
