So that when I play a ladder game the units use my custom skins, like for instance, a rifleman will have a blue beard ?

This is called Modding, the very purpose of this whole site and forum. So, you can safely assume the answer is yes!

Find yourself a copy of WinMPQ in the tools section. This allows you to browse, edit, insert, extract anything in or from a MPQ file.

There are various converters and tools available allowing you to make, edit convert and import models, skins, textures, sounds, music, buffs, etc.

As for Ladder games. I'm sure you can edit things to only affect your game... such as new text and what you have suggested, BUT, why would you want to do it for melee games? and you would be editing your core game MPQ. This may be detected in game syncronisation... not entirely sure.

We're here to create custom games and mods, not make ladder games look prettier.
