On signature limit

OK so... I know that the 500 chars limit was to avoid signature abuse but I've got a problem with it...

So I got 3 images that link to threads and the "Current Project:" sign right? Well... I can
't add anything more just because... the links to the images and threads are too long. I mean lol :<

Are you going to change it or will I have to upload the images to some sites with shorter names? (double lol)

Your sig looks plenty big to me.

Hmm... yeah when I kinda look at it now -> it is bigger than the average post I make. Anyways - beta signup's over so I might as well get rid of that banner :)

The signature limit is already too big... no need to raise it.

Yeah you're right. The thing is that it also counts the link length of any image though the image may be 5x5 lol :/

Anyways - I ain't arguin' about it.

Heh...I just got a mad idea.

You could make ONE big picture that includes everything you want in your signature...If you want some space between text and picture you can use backround color to make it look like there is free space there...I hope you understand what ei mean.

When sigs almost as a rule longer than their respective posts and/or contain more than one image, they are imo much too big. Whenever I link someone new to the wc3c forums they half the time go "omg, ugly forum, huge sigs, can't read anything" etc. Seriously, it's happen from like three different people...
The new design is much, much better in almost every way and alleviates the problem of differentiating the actual posts from the spam, but allowing even larger sigs would really be a step in the wrong direction. The signal to noise ratio on the forum is bad enough as it is.

Really not true. The problem is, 500 characters of text isn't that long. Neither is 50 more. I'd like to have links to five or six different threads in the forum, but I can't and link to my site and have my sig pic. The actual sig would be smaller than my current one, but I can't use it because the addesses for the links are too long. If you look at it like that, I think anyone will start to see the problem.

The only thing that is doing this limit is making everybody to have huge and annoying pictures in their sigs.

also... i never find a way to use my sig that much, i mean a sig is only to express yourself in a quick and fashionable way, not ur lifestory

35263526: You're right, linking to, say, 8-10 threads in a sig is certainly reasonable, if they're suitably small onscreen, although more than that I really wouldn't approve of. As I said, when the sig takes up more space then the actual post, it really makes a mockery of the whole forum idea in my eyes, since most of the stuff on the screen will be spam and not relevant to the topic.

Sig pics, however... don't take this personally, but your sig is a perfect example of the kind of stuff I hate - a huge, terribly ugly picture with no point or purpose whatsoever which takes up more many times more space on the page than your actual post (excluding the quote). I'm all for increasing the sig limit to 5000 chars or whatever, I really don't care about how long the code is, but what *bothers me* is how large the sig is on the screen. That's what should be more strongly enforced, sigs are way out of hand here...

Running the risk of getting this post deleted, as all criticism of the new avatar system seems to be, I'll add that I think the average sig has grown since the page revamp, since people want *some* way to differentiate themselves. Without having to spam the forums for months.
