A DotA clone on the way...

Well,i thoguht i wanted some comments on this scenery i´m planning to set my map in...
The map itself will be VERY DotA like, trying to catch the intensity of the original versions, and skipping the overpowered heroes and abilities of the other DotA clone maps.

Anyway, here´s some of the terrain i´ve done so far, tell me what you think. :D

This version of the map has been deemed too small, a new, larger one, is being made, new screenshots can be found in this thread.

hmmm, sounds good and the map looks great so far. Do you want the original skills from the roc ver working for tft 1.14b cuz I have some knowledge about how to convert the old skills form roc to work in tft. However I will not do it for free it's a whole days work and a very very boring work to do too but I know how to do, I've converted the map AoS - KingdomPurge skills so I know how to do... I'll name a price when they get the pointsystem on this forum working agin but if you want help with a complete convetion of the old DotA skills if your intrested PM me and we can discuss it.

Well i think i´ll start by making whole new abilities, mostly minor edits but edits anyway, TFT editor is good enough...
But if i cant get it balanced i´ll take your offer to serious consideration. :D


What i would need thoguh, is someone to explain how to get custom skins working, using TFT importer.
After all, i AM a skinner by my WC3 profession... :8
And DotA is no DotA without custom skins...

Map protection could also be useful.
(Last time i tried downlaoding such from here i only got a web page full of nonsense)
It´s not that i would want to keep it away from good mappers, just to stop tome kissing n00bs from screwing it all up...

andi'm sorry to say that i dont like your terrain so far, there dont seem to be any clear lanes or something, if you want to make a dota you'll need that.

also i think the tarrain is a big greenish and dark, but thats just personal taste speaking...

at first i wanted to do something like this, i wanted to bring back the old dota to tft... but i stopped the project, and started another, with a good background story and stuff... recreating dota's heros gets boring after i while i'll tell ya that... now i'm making a totally new eos with some interesting features that no other game has...

and besides, eul is allready making a dota classic convertion to tft.. i doubt yours could ever be better...

allthough... dota chaos/allstars/darkness falls/tft... all seem to be populair while they all suck ass >.<...

i would advice you to just make something totally new, you cnt recreatop dota on a diffrent terrain, for example...

Anyway, i have no intention of making an EXACT clone of DotA, with all the abilities copied, of course i´ll make it in my own way, well see if my way crashes against the wall or not in the end... ^_^

Oh, and, i did think a little before saying that, i was more like thinking about the latest RoC dota version i played.

As i stated, i dont intend to exactly CnP the heroes from dota, i´ll make new heroes.

What i intend, is to make a map that captures the "essence" of DotA, something different but what will still instantly make you think of the original, if that makes any sense. :>


Oh, and the lanes.
I´m making broader lanes, actualyl, nto lanes, but battlegrounds.
One of them is the swamp, one is a village fight...
With slightly larger monster spawns it´ll get intresting to sneak around in swamp forest or between the village buildings...
I hope... ^_^

The middle way, i guess i´ll make it look something something like an more open area, healthier for mage characters.

^_^ Ive got one thing to say: and its a warning.

U can never beat the quality of dota.. no matter how hard u try. No offence...

Well, me and erwten tried making a dota 2... as he said, after a while we just coudnt go on. It just isnt right trying to (re)create sombody elses map. So i advice u to make a whole new map...

But, though, i have to say, that terrain got the real ''oldskool'' dota feeling! just the first versions of dota...i loved them

Anyway, i´m more like thinking about calling the map - if i ever get it finished - Blighted Lands, Haunted Something, along those lines, callling it DotA would be misleading.

Thing is, the map is different, but the idea is very much the same:

A somewhat hero centered map with MAX reasonable creep summons to make it a skirmish compared to the larger AoS maps (but still slightly bigger than DotA).
Also, completely new heroes, abilities...

So much new, but my goal is to capture the intense battles of DotAs, the minor team strategy: 3 enemies there, we need 3 there too (lame example, i know).


So:
A dota that looks and acts different but feels the same.

okay, then its all good. we where going for that too with our map, but whe thought of so many new innuvative gameplay elements that make the gameplay much deeper... so kinda the only thing thats still dotaish is that the main focus will be hero battles, and making hero kills.

in fact, making hero kills is even more important, becouse if you kill a camp leader you gain spawned units! oO''

Right, so, some more information...
I´m setting the maximal hero level as 15, a little bit stronger than typical melee game, but no titan still.

There will be a Zoom-Out function, so that players can get a better overview of the combat.

The unit spawns will be something like this:

Humans:
2 Modified Footmen aka Squires
1 Modified Knight
2 Modified Riflemen aka Javelin Squire, using Assasin Model and heavily armored custom skin

Undead:
4 Modified Ghouls
1 "Hell Machine", slightly lower damage than the knight, but attacks at a longer range
2 So far unplanned ranged units


The heroes are planned to begin the game somewhat stronger than ordinary units and grow stronger from there.


So far there are two heroes planned on paper:

Human Mountain Giant:
Modified Bash
Modified Resistant Skin, or something such, something to increase damage taking capability
Modified War stomp
Ultimate Modified Storm Bolt aka "Squish", close range, heavy damage
He is supposed to be the primary melee tank hero of the Human side.
His name would be "Simon" or something. :P

Undead Flame Beast:
Modified Immolation
Modified Flamestrike
Modified Breath of Fire, a weak ability, that costs a low amount of mana and reloads fast, acting as the primary attack of the creature.
Ultimate Modified Rain of fire or something such
Planned as an AoE caster hero.


Heroes will be having quite short acquisition ranges, so that they wont go marching out to war without the players orders, but also resulting in an increased need to micro them.


Those are the plans so far...

I like the village, the only thing that's somewhat less are the masses of skulls. A little bit too much skulls...

Human mountain giant.... what do i have to think about that... not really orignal skills too...

And what model was u planning on getting for the fire thingy?

The mountain giant, i´m thinking he´s someone who is simply pissed off at the Undead for ruinning his home lands, revenge and so on, allies...
And, well, those abilities are not yet decided, on, things may still change, but that´s how he looks like by now.

The fire beast COULD be a wisp, those look pretty cool with immolation, but i have yet to decide if i want him to look more mean than that or is a wisp mean enough.


There ARE som ideas flying aronud in my head, but they are still unfinished:
Arthas model on foot, with my headless warrior skin on him...
An Armored Blade Master thingy... Just to get to use the skin i´ve made...
Jimmy the Weed Giant is still working on getting past the censors... :P
