Site Feature: User Reputation

We are currently testing out the reputation feature included in vb3, it looks pretty promising. You should all notice a reputation link over on the left user info panel in our thread view pages. The bar below this link will grow with increased approval by other users, leaving your mouse over the bar graphic will show you a text description of the users reputation. Clicking on a reputation link in one of your own posts will show you your numerical reputation value. Currently we are using the default values, but we most likely will be tweaking them as we see how you all use the system. The values are as follows:

  • For every 1000 posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
  • For every 100 positive reputation points, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
  • Users must have 50 posts to be able to impact other users reputation levels.
  • You must have 10 reputation points to be able to impact other users reputation levels. [10 is what everyone starts with]
  • You may only rate 10 posts in a 24h period, reserve your vote for the best of the best and worst of the worst.
  • You may not rate someone a second time until you have 20 users rate your account.

You can check which posts you or another user have been rated on in the member profiles area. Please be fair, if you are caught abusing the system you will be punished accordingly.

Is this change retroactive or does it start from now?

The only thing im not clear on is if you get the "reward" exactly as the level is crossed or anytime afterwords. Im not sure if you only are able to get that extra reputation-altering power at the moment you cross 1000 posts or anytime afterwords. What i mean is, do you only get it during the crossing, or will someone who had 1001 posts when I enabled this also have a greater infulence on others reputation.

When you hit 1000 posts soon your reputation influence will be 2 points per rate.

Is it there just to show how cool guy someone is or does it have some other meaning(like better avatars if you have good reputation)

1000 posts? that will take a while. It is good that rate post is back, though.

Sounds intresting, the reputation points :) I think I'll like it. Though for some people, they are already pretty populair (Draco as example :)) So, perhaps he should start with a higher amount?

Anyway... what is exactly this 'Reputation-Altering Power' you talk about?

I see that this forum upgraded too, and good features added also. Reputation, quick reply (must have, in my opinion), I like it :)

So Reputation point are the number of point you give to someone when rating?

Is it fully installed or only half of it is done?

I believe its to see who spams, and who is useful., but Dark One's idea is kool!

Ps, stoned, did my zillions of posts begging for a (similar) system influence this? It seems like the same general thought, but 1000x better!

At the moment, reputation points will not get you any tangible reward. However, if this system seems to work well, we may base things like avatars, titles, other things you find in the store currently, or possibly other rewards on these points. The reputation system might also be integrated with the downloads section in the future.

The balance of power must be very fair else people will find a way to hack it, let think about some useful thing to give to the people with reputation point.

It would be nice if reputation point could give "grad" on the mirc channel, I got bored of not being voiced and then other set the channel to moderation.

How about having a special forum? I think it would be a good place to get comment on thing without having too many "fans". Also, those people could get special previlege(sp?) as tester.

IMO, its hard to spam that much to get those reputation point without someone noticing him.

PS: Where do you get those Garfield sample? I didnt know it was possible to read them on internet... legally at least. I was a big fan before(I have the first 30 book.. lol):P
