Squirt?

Help me out here. I'm trying to get the 'squirt' option of a particle emitter to work. I put a Bezier controller on the parts/sec track of the particle and checked the squirt box but it isn't showing up at all. I don't know that I did the controller right, though. Could someone show me how to do this?
