WOW.. i just had some silly new idea o.O... well, actually its not exacly my idea, i clicked the last page button in this section of the forum, there was an eos that had someidea for it... but i want to expand that idea into becoming cool... but the problem is i think it might overcomplicate the easyness of things... what if we make somekind of packhorse hires? these hires will be able to carry 6 items, just like heros. the horses will be heros themselves, so they can be revived, at the 'stables' or the place they are bought. packhorses should also have some simple abilities. now for the good thingie, if you give a packhorse that belongs to you an item, you should be able to benefit from the bonusses that item gives, as long as the horse is close to you. Examples: if you give it a dmg item, your damage should go up. if you give it a potion and use it while the horse is carrying it, your HP or mana or whatever effect the potion has should go up. they will not be able to carry spellbooks. so, actually, these horses are kind of extentions for your inventory, but you have to keep em close in order to benefit from them. the horses will be relatively weak bur will have primary attribute strength, so they will get stronger the loneger you keep em alive. horses will not drop items on death, but you'll have to pay in order to revive. you will only benefit from the items properties when the horse is close to you. if it is too far away you will lose the item bonusses and lose the ability to use the potions the horse is carrying. each race might have a slightly diffrent horse or item carrier. like orc->kodo with health regen or defence aura... human->pack horse with mana regen or defence aura troll->hmm... well.. probobly a kodo with a speed aura or a regen aura druid->hmm.. horse with some strange aura, maybe thorns. Illidan->somekind of water creature with some aura... Maiev->somekind of undead thingie with some aura... comments and crits on this system are MORE then welcome... |

Sounds like a good idea and could be done with some skillfull triggering. Come up with some original and unique spells for the mounts. They should be passive or no-mana spells in order to maintain simplicity. You could also give the mounts a "follow" ability that when used on a hero the mount automatically follows him. It could still attack but if it leaves say a region centered on the hero it is ordered to move back to the hero. |

The pack horse idea has been done...not to the extent your talking about...but i know i've seen it in an rpg sumwhere. The maker called it a familiar tho...which i think is a kewler idea...cause that goes more in line with what your sayin different horses for each race...in fact you could have a different familiar for each hero. I'm sorry i can't remember what the rpg was called...i never played it, just saw his description and screenies. I'm sure it could be done without too much stress...good luck with it |

Yes 'famaliars' sounds like a better way to go. It will allow you be more creative and there wont be the problem of sameish animals. |

having some of the most extensive work with items I can tell you that your idea is about 500 times harder then you think. First off its no prolbem to do the packhorse aura effect, thats an easy art of triggering. Its obtaining the bonuses from the item that is the hard part. There are no natives, no functions no nothing to get what bonuses an item has. But lets say you decide to manually define all item abilities then yes with something like an equipItem function from DT4a you should be able to do this but then if you get to that point getting rid of the horse definetely seems like a better idea and just make it all an extensive backpack. |
