Hello, is there anyway that any of you might know on how to import a warcraft 3 model, like a footman, into 3D Max? This is what im at so far. First I used WinMPQ to extract the footman .MDX file from the MPQ files. Then I used this handy program I found to turn it into a .MDL sadly since you all know u cant import a .MDL file into 3D Max, im confused on where to go from here.... |

well you actually have many options I have a .mdx importer and a .mdl importer just stick them in your 3ds max scripts folder, then go to utilities, maxscript, run script, and then click on it again in the little drop down window that it appears in when you select it. Im not sure which one is better, I haven't really experimented with either but I think the .mdl importer can do more things than the other. heres the .zip with both scripts in it |

How? Sorry I can easily do modeling but for everything else im more or less a noob. How would I reapply the skin? |

convert the model's skin into a targa, press m to open up the material editor, choose the first orb, go down to the maps area, press the plus to make it rollout, click the "none" by the defuse color section, double click on bitmap, and then browse to your targa, then open it, click the blue checkered box so that you can see the skin in the viewport. Then apply it to the model by dragging it onto the mesh |

Alright I will attempt that now.......and worship you if it works.......and I think it will........ |

I'm on a seperate computer from the one i have that has Max so im just going to ask. Do those import animations? |
| 03-24-2004, 01:55 PM | #15 |
no, actually, it doesn t exist any script that can import animations. I know someone who try to develop one, but it isn t finished yet. That s why i use the option "static" when i import a model. |
