How to add permenant attachments to units?

How do I add a permenant attachment to a unit?
I want to have a blademaster that permenantly has the bloodlust art attached to him.
I'd rather set it in the objects menu then use buffs, or some dummy caster.
Thanks,
Remy.

You can alter an ability, like sphere or an iconless item ability, so that it doesn't do anything and has the art that you desire in the locations that you desire. Copy the model path and attachment points from the Bloodlust ability to your dummy ability, and give it to the hero.

Alternatively, you can use triggers to attach the effects when the hero enters the map, or at the beginning of the game if he's preplaced.

You, know I have been having a problem with getting abilities to attach certain buffs. I have a centaur type unit that can recieve an upgrade that gives it the Spiked Carapace ability... but no spikes show up. I know on the Crypt Lord the spike models are attached to the chest (left, right, so on) but it doesn't seem to work the same for the centaur. Any insight as to how to properly attache the SPike buffs?

Centaurs don't have the same attachment points. Some models have points similar to the Crypt Lord, but generally speaking, I think those that Spiked Carapace uses are pretty rare. Models don't have them unless they specifically need them for something.

So, try using different, more common attachment points, and see if you can get it looking like you want it.

Just what I was afraid of.. time for the old trial and error.

It's worth noting that you can figure out what pretty much all of the standard attachment points are by looking at the attachment point locations of existing abilities.

you could use triggers to add the buff everytime the unit is created. A lot of special effects don't go away unless you tell them to. just create a special effect attactched to whatever unit, and remove it whenever the unit dies...if your wanting to attatch it to a unit that appears a lot on your map, it will use up more power...but thats up to you.

I think he wants it permanantly added to the unit in which case it doesn't even need removed.

In that case either Sphere, Flag or Orb are your best bets. Remeber, an SFX created by Sphere has it's death animation played everytime the unit attacks, which doesn't happen with Flag or Orb.

Also, if you ever do need to remove the SFX, just use the Remove Ability action.

The orb ability isn't the best choice, is it? Since orb and other attack-modifying abilities like Searing Arrows don't stack, it might interfere with other things on your units.

Eek, good point, thanks for reminding me. I'd use one of the Flag abilities for this because they have none of the drawbacks.

Try using the tree of life upgrade ability. its completely seamless, being what the upgraded trees use for their sparkles.
