Why would using third person require you to use custom models?

Because if im going third person like the diablo view, then its going to look like diablo

And how would the models be different than if you were looking in first person?

Hmm, KaosAngel1Z1, I don't even understand why you are even wondering about having first person in your map? Do you realize how much it would suck? Do you know of any successful hack-and-slash games that are first person? I bet not, but actually I do, and they just don't really work. F.ex. you never know when a enemy is propperly in range for your sword and stuff. And no matter what the control structure you're using (using 3rd party tool in background to do real FPS controls? or using wc3'ish mouse-clicks and just have the camera follow?). Both would suck, ATLEAST if it's gonna be a Multiplayer map, which you don't state.

So....erhm....third person all the way. You can show the player the environment in cut-scenes anyways.

I dont think anarki was the one that is making the map, I think he just posted a random comment, but yea 1st person, especially for diablo would suck.

He is likely talking about how he needs then to show the main character...and as this is most likely a "ambitious" project, he wants to make the main char look special (custom-model). However, if it's FPS, he ofcourse doesn't need to show the main char (which is ofcourse bull, as he still would need to display it in cinematics or stuff, i don't know).

Just so you know, Diablo and Diablo 2 aren't in 1st or 3rd Person. They're in isometric.

And trust me on this, if you plan an '1337 pr0ject ful of kool cust0m content and a gr3at RPG exp3rience', don't bother. If you can reproduce just the control systems of Diablo I/II then you've got something to be proud of.
