Well, I tried to make a vampire face before jacinthe gave me some basic tips (DOH! brushes own DnB!) and stuff, which, although, wasnt more than a kick in the right direction, it has done well for my faces... here is the before and after of my "vampire" face I made... these are REAL images. the bad one was made 1 week ago, the good one 2 days ago. You see, trying to blend colors with dnb lead to horribleness.. Thank god for airbrsh! Thanks Jacinthe! [oh yeah its a sneak peak to my next skin... the green is unedited areas from an old one FYI.] the good one may not be the best face ever, but anyone has to admit its a drastic leap forward, especially for one day of work changing methods! I only used one brush on it, no dnb or anything! boo-yah! first good freehand face! |

Wow, talk about improvement. =D Nice work~~ I'm personally of the opinion that Kael's face has too distinct features to really give him a complete makeover with stunning results (though obviously a lot can be changed); most of the other models I've skinned, with the exception of the MK and possibly the SH, have vastly better faces for complete revamps. You did well with what was available, though. No need to give me such credit, I'm not the only one to swear off burn and dodge around here. ^^ |

Im still a burn and doger but i also use brushes alot 2. I would say my fav tools are dodge, burn, recolor, and the straight laso. Couldn't live without them. Ya an insane improvement. so kuma have u now become Jacinthe's appretice. I sure wish i were in ur boots :( |

This is hardly worthy of a gallery, is it a skin? You're posting techniques and comparisons for a face... I'm not gonna move it, but please bear in mind people come here to view and crit skins... you should post this in the parent forum really. As for your new found 'technique', you can achieve that using DnB just as well, its all about using it properly. Jacinthe prefers paintbrush as it doesnt corrupt the colour like DnB does. I prefer using lighten and darken for shading, but that lacks the addition of new colours that using paintbrush would give. DnB is best used for metals, crystals and the like. Both the faces you have shown seem very basic and lack a lot of detail. |

Paintbrush gives you more control of colors. I usally skin in grey and recolor over so it doesnt matter that much. I think ydoh used brushes aswell. The skins with the brushes come out more cartoony(wc3ish) because the colors dont vary as much. |

WH - its fairly basic because I was only getting used to the tool. I, personally, don't like to overdo faces, because an overdone face ruins most skins... Its just my style.. I drew some light reflection in it, but I think it blends a bit too much (you can see a lot of light blues..) I'll use less "basic" faces in the future, but the face is meant to fit the skin I'm making for it (only the legs, chest, and cape are done, and ya cant see those yet..) Go easy, im just trying to learn the tool a bit.. DnB does distort the color, and I dont use/have PSP so I cant lighten/darken.. I may get it, for the sake of being able to use the best of both. Desperado - I'm not kissing ass... If you see the improvement, you'll know her help really made a differance.. I don't want it too wrinkley (again, my style, and as Jac said, the BM face isn't very good for details, since its a reshaped arthas's and the UV doesnt fit it. Also, i used around 19 different shades, and around 5 completely different colors, and I wanted the eyes big by choice. Egg - Yeah, same thing here, I still use DnB a bit, but i'm working my way to brushed ^_~;; Jacinthe - well, you changed the outcome, and thats all that matters, thnx! (I agree, the MK and SH faces really suck to draw, too :-P) Mock1 - exactly! For some reason, without the colors, I just couldn't draw a face (vision it, atleast..) yet I've always grayscale DnB'd then color overlay it, that tends to be best for armor, since the color distortion on it fits the texture :) |
