hey, any custom spell makers out there? Darky27 in particular, I was wondering how did you make the spells? Me and my friend are making a map and we have a lot of great ideas, but we'll go no where without custom made spells. If someone could tell me how to orient triggers into the spells... or whatever, that would be awesome. You can also contact me by email: [email protected] |

You can go about doing custom spells in two ways, and I suggest trying both. Firstly, come up with a bunch of spells that you want, based on the conceptual ideas behind your map and your units. Ignore what you think that the trigger or ability editor are capable of. Once you've got an interesting list, start figuring out which spells can be modified from existing spells, and which ones will require triggering. If you make a trigger-based spell, generally you're going to want to make a dummy ability, and whenever that ability is used, you detect it with a trigger event and then perform your actions. Roughly speaking. The other way is to browse through the existing list of spells completely, and think about ways that you can change the spells in interesting ways to produce an effect that's much different from the original spell. Spending time looking at all the effects that spells can produce is useful. Many of them, like Cloud, have several things built into the ability that aren't currently used by the game. |
