Petitions on battle.net!

Well, as everyone have noticed it, the three newstopics on battle.net were obviously fake and thus their April's Fool Joke. Although the 0.999=1 (or whatever) joke was kinda lame, the other two had certain potential to be a interesting concept to be put into their games. The promise of additional neutral heroes/creep models/sounds/icons being added through patches seems quite interesting and just the thing to keep the game alive! Not to mention that some people here on the boards favor the goblins mucho because of their destructive yet funny way of causing havoc ^_^ Long live the goblin Tinker!

The other joke was about the ogre and the ability to have a character which is controlled by two players. Of course it sounds odd at first, but it can be a potential feature in a MMoRPG that could make WoW different then other MMoRPG's. Lets face it: how many MMoRPGS did you not have seen with almost the identical procedures of playing? All what would make WoW different from the others would be its stronghold on a large fanbase. If you take a look at Ultima Online ( old succesfull MMoRPG) you will notice that their features are most vast and interesting: how come that in like countless computer years the genre MMoRPG did not evolve (except on graphical lvl)regarding the way of playing the game?

Even if the concept "sounds" dumb or even suffers from technical limitations, it is still interesting nontheless and would be just the thing that the dull genre of MMoRPG need! What the new MMoRPGs in development need are new ways of playing the game, be that in a twoheaded ogre with another player or a metal gear solid - way of sneaking /breaking in a heavily guarded vault with another player during the night, not just a polishing up in graphics regarding the old -=whack monster with others-get stronger =- concept (There are some rpg's that offer new ways of playing, but I doubt they will get much success in this crowded market without a pre-existing fanbase).

Therefore sign the petitions now to make the jokes into reality! You got nothing to lose, so even if you are not going to buy WoW or play TFT, just sign for both petitions on their boards! ^_^ It is good to know that a concept will be in the game thanks to the joint effort of all people and your contribution!

Goblin Tinker Petition is gone, seems that they removed everything that leads to goblin tinker. Great way, reminded of the art tools forum where all the needed and usefull topics were deleted as well, good job Blizzard.... :<

Ogre Petition is here!!

...If I wasnt banned from those forums, i'd sign it :)
I guess creating a clan bent on backstabbing only wasnt a great idea... Their "2 week ban" they promised has lasted around 5 months now :P

Allthough, why should we bother asking for anything outside of this site, when the inside of it is being ripped to shreds... [The download section, the crusty ""UPGRADE""] I mean, why should Blizzard listen to us, when, the leaders of this site don't?

Good point! I think the new download system is awful.
Back on topic, I would love to have the goblin tinker and Two-Player Ogre. But I don't even think they will even read that thread. :(

Well, it cant be done. The fact is: Darky's site dl section needed additional hosting as the current one cannot deal with sucha huge amount of data. hence he contacted Stonedstoopid for hosting. Stonedstoopid complied with that, but was impressed by Darky's scripts regarding the dl section. With that , and the thought of why hosting it twice on the same server, he and darky decided to merge the sections. You must keep in mind that this decision was made a few weeks ago when the dl section was originally planned to be fixed for vb3. As the scripts darky provided were much more powerfull, stoned decided to offer hosting for both sites regarding the dl section with the usage of darky's scripting capabilities.

True, even I liked the old download section a tad better, but it cannot be denied that darky's dl scripts and upload scripts are much more powerfull, able to show data that you will find useless (like if there is a model sent with no skinpathing or readme etc at all , you can check with darky's script what the model uses for skins and whatsonot. You can retreive the correct paths etc quite quickly.

Another factor is that the file uploads (as I call it, aka stuff that misses certain files, corrupted or totally not even models at all (trojans, virusses ) are always what they suppose to be, as you have to follow a certain upload procedure in order to upload and create a zip. of course the bad thing is that you have no choise to follow this procedure......and to be honest, I prefer creating zip packages myself that includes everything that is needed for the common user to understand it, with of course a personal footnote in the zip self (you can add your comments in zips) instead of a scripted zip. (Note; due the fact that the zips are generated by a certain script, you need winrar and just rightclick to extract it (winrar should be a staple tool in your computer anyways! If you dont have it yet, get it!)

Also a note to be reckoned with, is that the user databases on the two sites will be merged. This means if you want to download on wc3campaigns, it would just be as normal; no logins, no new usernames etc. Just a redirect when you hit the dl section button. Darky is trying hard to make the layout similar to the wc3c's one, so that the feeling that you are forced to sitejump is kept at a minimum. This of course has a more graver impact on darky's site: users banned HERE will not be able to find a safehaven anymore there to download there stuff. They will be banned there as well and thus it wont be a ticket for spamming here and downloading there.

Also note that Darky's dl scripts are not fully implented yet. What I have seen sofar is that the dl section is getting very close to what it original suppposed to be, save for the fact that I still hate the layout ^_^

My point is, although the current system is still work-in-progress, you should give it a chance when it is 100% fully integrated within wc3c. Do you really think we arbitrarily take decisions for this site just to tease you people? No, the answer is just downright no. Stonedstoopid put alot of effort and resources (people who are running their own sites should know what I mean; monthly bandwidth costs, regularly check ups for security flaws (which are NEVER 100% flawless), applying new scripts to make things smoother then just to find out it is much worse (like gambling, there is a chance that it can actually make it worse), making certain features to work, regular basis of people abusing the server capacities so that the sites bandwidth limit is being pushed further again etc (one of the damn reasons why you cannot put your image here anymore then to use it on other sites for your signature, like what certain individuals did), as well as most moderators and directors do, to keep this site running in one piece and to offer you people a resourcesite. ANYTHING that could actually lighten up Stoned's worktime on this site and is actually usefull, is welcomed with open arms. And Darky's expertise is a welcomed addition to the team.

Of course we " could" try to find professional site managers that can fix most things in a blink, but keep this in mind that site does not create any profit at all. Banners don't do shit at all (and if they do, they would barely fork out the cash at all. Only porn sites with porn pop ups and site redirects are the only thing) and to use your own personal resources and time just to keep the site running is a big responsibility. We don't have a community that would donate to keep sites alive; most likely there never will (as far as I have seen it, only anime sites that go arrange anime distribution etc have achieved such success).

Of course you could say: then bring the quality to top notch! But even that would be just a theory, as you also have to consider what people such gamesites actually attract. Aye, indeed and bingo; people around 10-18 years old who dont have the resources, nor the capabilities, nor the interest to donate and care what would happen to gamesites such as these. Even if you could, most of the chances are that you will rather enjoy the service for the time being instead to fork out, which is understandable. It has almost become a written customary "law" on the internet, a habit, to see the internet and its domains as a free source for information etc, and usually, people always will have this in mind when surfing. With those in mind, we do not expect you to donate nor do we demand it. All what we expect from you guys is just reasonable understanding and respect on certain decisions, even if they taste sour at the time being: thats all we ask, it does not cost you a certain material thing.

Respect the people who are around you everyday and try their best to help you (parents, teachers *guh* -> of course, under the condition that they respect you as well and try their best to help you. If they fail at that -=beating, abuse etc=- you can say: **** off!).

Especially consider respecting Darky, as he put ALOT of time and effort lately just to keep on schedule. He tries to make a acceptable good dl section and needless to say: he is one of the few people who earned my (and alot of others) respect by hard work and service. Ok I was bitching too about the download system, but hey thats me, a grumpy old coot.....he shouldnt worry about my bitching. ^_^

Great speech, though I still like the old download system. Many people don't submit any new campaigns anymore. I loved the old campaigns. But now they are all gone....
But now that I know the whole story, I feel better about their decision. :D

they are not gone. They are still in work of progress. The amount of files is huge as I might have to correct you and most of the downloads are slowly but steadily being recovered. Hope I eased your mind =P

ALL downloads are always back upped, it just take time to recover them

Regardless... I still think that taking away some of the features of this site made a lot of people hate it. Like the points for ex., one of my buddies was working real hard, helping people a lot in the Map Development Forums, then finally after a steady week of constant posting, he got his Glowy Name. Now, I personally don't care about the whole glowy name stuff, but the point is, the moment he got that, a week later, you updated the site, screwed him over, making him lose all his well earned objects, Italic Name, Colored Name, Custom Avatar, and Glowy Name. As you can see, you could at least held onto the information to use in a different way, but you didn't. So many, MANY, people have left the forums. Have you not noticed the downward drop in activity in the forums? I have, which is why I decided to go out and buy a new game, UT2K4. I still will answer questions and look at the forums here and there, but no where near as much as I to. Once this "Download" section is finished, I'll fool around with it, to see how "much better" it is. Until then, I'll be killing some Skarrj.

Each section of the downloads could be put in a diffren't forum, but then when in the world is my feedback worth something.:<

Back to the topic...

The petitions are getting a good workout so there is a small possiblility that one or both will be released to the public.
I can't sign the petition (I have no account for Battle.net, due to the crummy 56k modem I have) so I might as well say something here.^_^

Agreed on those points things, but IMO they were too manipulative and as Reps stated, they were a temporarely test system (people were artificially raising points through....illl mannered ways). In my opinion they should had never been put into practice in the first place. But again, the upgrade of the points losing was unforseen and not quite what Stonedstoopid had in mind ( was done by a single man who forgot to warn like, all the staffers as well....)

Yeah I know I sound like a nerd saying this... but if anyone was wondering why .9999... doesn't equal 1, it's because you cannot divide by 0, which the equation does.

[That thing has been around for a very long time]
