Icon Request for HQ Remake!

Hey, DaKaN and I are working on a remake to the old HeroQuest, and we need a couple of icons.

Sadly I haven't figured the concept of each completely, but they must each represent a stat. So feel free to bring your own concept on the effect of each stat.

1) Might - A Flexxed humanoid Arm-muscle, not too muscular. Rather focused/zoomed into the actual muscle preferably.


2) Vitality - HP - A Muscular body? :/ not too sure.

3) Constitution - HPRegen - A Heart perhaps?

4) Agility - Attack Speed - Not too sure about, perhaps a effect similar to the invisibility-ability-icon but on the hand/arm.

5) Dexterity - Defence/MoveSpeed - Leg-Muscle? :/ (easier to put move-speed into a icon, than defence)

6) Intelligence - MP - Hmm, brain or sumtin? feel free to improvise

7) Spirit - MPRegen - A brain but with some energy stuff flowing in or sumtin?, or meditation or sumtin?.


I can't really offer much reward anymore. But you'll be in the credits, and i'll add to your reputation.

Anyways, thanks in advance if someone decides to help with this, even if just to suggest a concept to any of the icons.

I would expect to be a fair strike of quality in the icons, that is, fair color-usage, and a fair knowledge on the humanoid muscular build.

EDIT: And I can't use the WC3 stat icons for this as they're already in use for something else.

How do you want them to look? Like comic bookish (no too serious) or more Uber-RPG like? Either way I could do all of them.

Hmm, sorry for having been away for so long (easter).

But i'm kinda wondering myself if I want to have a special format/border thingy on them, similar to the WC3 Stats, or if I just want the normal icon-border and black background. Now when I think about it, i'd prefer them to have the WC3 stat border. You can extract it from the attached images.

But I'd like the style to be rather realistic rather than comical, with some realisticness in the human anatomy (muscles-build and stuff) etc. However, while going with the WC3-style border, I figure the icons should also take it's goldenish look. And you don't have to worry about them being to similar to the WC3 stat, as for the heros that "do" use Vit/Const for example (str-based heros), don't have the WC3-Strength-icon thingy, but other hero-types will get the WC3-strength-icon instead of the Vit/Const icons.
I hope you understand what I mean.

I think I get you. So: Keep them realistic but also golden. Use the gold border in the examples you posted?

Should be easy enough. It may take me a day or two because while you were away I picked up a few other icon projects but I hope to have yours done in the next few days. I'll see what I can do.

Here they are. They went quicker that I thought. In the preview they are in the order you requested from left to right. They are a bit bigger than the pics you posted so that they would be the right size (from 54px to 64px). I can change the size or borders if you decide you want them otherwise.

Woah, awesome job, I didn't expect this ammount of quality in human anatomy.

However, seeing this, there are a few changes/re-concepts i'd like to ask for, if it wouldn't be too much. I drew ugly concept-art in paint to explain better.

So basicly:

I prefer that the first one (might) is directly zoomed in on a flexed arm, like in the attached pic. However, I think i'll be able to use the one you made as Vitality along with the other zoomed-out body for Constitution. The heart-one was perhaps a little bit to realistic to fit a WC3 icon IMHO. Although if you'd try once more at a bit more cartoony heart, it'd be great, but the first icon fits well as vit with the other body-icon as constition.

However, I'm wondering if you can remake the feet one to use the concept in my second attached icon. Basicly a pic from the side, zoomed in on the legs, where the target is running, and in the exact frame where one of his leg is on the ground and the other is hanging in the air. See Concept 2 :P

And lastly, considering the likeness of the two mentally related icons, i'd love if you could draw the last attached concept, basicly a icon zoomed into the face of a human (I guess), with his eyes closed. It can like any of the following I think:
* Zoomed all the way into the closed eyes
* Zoomed around the general parts of the face (not showing much hair), like in attached pic.
* Showing more than the whole head and some tiny slews of purple aura flowing into the head or sumtin. But I guess that you'd have then less space for face content (if it covers just 50% of the icon).

I'm also trying to think about a bit different swift-hand concept, but I can't make up one, so the one you made is fine.

And I think I want them to include the grey background like in the WC3 icons, however, I can add that, as that's just a matter of CnP.

Anyways, I greatly appreciate the work you've submitted. So thank you again.

Glad you like the work. I can do the legs ok and the eye. Do you want the heart to look like a human heart or a love heart? Oh yah, Grey is easy. I can do it myself.

Phew, I finaly got some time to work on your icons. I wasn't sure which brain one you wanted so I did both. Hope you like. Let me know if you need some changes again.

Man!, i'm really sorry, the reply mail-delivery must have not delivered the first time, and i've been away for the weekend.

But... man!, they are great. Really awesome, especially the legs one and the spirit one. Really good looking.

I'll be making some tauch-ups to them myself though, as they don't fit with the WC3 icons (i'm using them all together). The most obvious difference is that the edges/shadows are much sharper/darker in the WC3, which is pretty easy to fix myself, and the background is a bit darker (more corny) in the WC3 stat ones. I also need to make the WC3 icons larger to fit 64x64. And lastly fill up the background of them to the border (as they have this blackness between the border and the grey stuff, which I can't do on the icons you made, as the contents of some of them fill all the way to the borders on them, but that's fine).

But yeah, when I have finished darkening the shadows/edges, they'll look really sweet ingame.

Only one more thing... What... is on that first icon? :P lol, I think his face is a bit messed up :O, lol. Or perhaps i'm just not figuring the directions/stance on that icon. But that's really ok, I've been using the attack icon as a replacement, and it has fitted quite ok.
Oh, and what tool, did you use to save them? cause...they were up-side-down in WC3 Viewer and in WE. I already fixed that myself so that's not really a concern.

So again, thank you a bunch, and I have already added you to HeroQuests' credits.

Ok, let me see if I can pick out what the problems are. Sorry about the borders and background. It didn't even occur to me to check those. I can easily redo those as I still have the origional layered files. I'm a bit lost about the background to the border thing.

Ha ha, I looked at the first one a worried you wouldn't be able to tell. It is a guy over his right shoulder. Both his arms areflexed and he is looking to the left and has is chin roughly on his shoulder.

The upside down thing. I have know idea. I did them in Photoshop 6 and converted them with wc3viewer. Once again, I should have checked.

Oh well, let me know if you want me to fix them because I won't unless you let me know.
