Heres a shot of a city im making, I will add more as I make more of the city. Please post gripes, concerns, whatever.

Edit: Next time I will size them down so the textures are less blurry...

Tree is sticking into house and door is a little too big for those people.

Dragon, you have a big problem, you either suck at terraining, or suck at taking screenshots.

All I can see in that shot is a tree, 2 fences, a rock, 3 river rushes, the blurry sides of a building and several villagers.

Ugh.

This is for my project, most of the time you will be in 3rd person. Everything will just be "4 villagers, some fences and a rock" because thats all you will be able to see. You see, I have some big plans for this project. This won't be a crappy sub-par RTS-type RPG like Waugriff's, Legends, and Ragnarok Open RPG. This will be a 3rd-person follow cam RPG with in-depth lore, and NO grammatical (sp?) errors. I just checked your terrain. It's terrible. Especially those rogue encampment shots. They scare me, I didn't know that anyone could butcher terrain so much.

Edit: Oh yeah, this terrain actually kicks ass. My screenshot skills are great too. You just can't realize it. Your looking at it thinking "I can't see much" when you should be thinking "I can't see much, but what I can see is good". Please realize the obvious. Thanks.

Draco: Thats the fault of the skinner/modeler of the city buildings. I'm not the one who made the door 1/2 the height of the house.

The door on the building being too tall IS your fault. You have enough sense to make the building bigger, but now you have made it too big. If you want you can always stack buildings on top of each other to make them seem bigger while still having a realistic door size.

Your screenshot taking skills ARNT great. If they were, we would be able to see more then the 2 fences, 3 bushes , rock, and a blurry building.

You said your terrain acctually kicks ass, great, prove it.

The houses have a 200% scale. The houses in CotD have a 200% scale. Everyone thinks the terrain in CotD is good, but mine, not so good.

Terrain like that wouldn't be hard to recreate. If you want to impress the people here, show them something they haven't seen before. Stuff like this has been seen before, and made before, nothing new here. Also, if you're looking for crits, you're not showing enough stuff TO crit.

About your screenshots "skills" (I really don't think screenshot taking is a skill but whatever), all your screenshots that I've seen are zoomed WAY in. They hardly show any terrain. I understand that that will be the ingame view, but this is a terrain forum. Show the terrain, not what it looks like ingame.

Last thing I have to say is please don't boast about your skills. No one likes a braggart.

If the terain is so good, why is there only one screen shot, if youre going to take such close shots then make sure everything is perfectly to scale, it dosnt matter in game, as no one will see, but for that shot it ruins it, the idea of a close up shot on a village sceen is sound, but to make it something interesting, you shpould have a paneramic shot, try to get several groups of villagers doing different things, like having a market in the forground and some farmers cutting crops in the background on a sloped hill, the pics nice (with a few alterations) but theres just not enough to keep anyone interested for more than a second

It just looks like another boring/not original city. Cotd is way too updated and I never found the terrain in it any exceptionnal. But go ahead, say we suck and you are perfect if you want.. nobody care.

Show us something original before blasting others.

This is one of the major cities for a project. It's not going to be "amazing, great, unique, wonderful" because its a city. I'm harly done. I will come back later when I have finished.

Christ you guys are being snobby pricks, this is the terrian forum right? He has terrain, it may not be very good looking but at least its a hell of alot more utilitarian then the terrian alot of you guys make, see some people like to make thier maps playable which means ease of pathing and as few doodads as possible, i too admit the terrian is dull, but as long as its just how the generic areas look i really dont give a damn that if it isnt cinematic qualtity.

I belive the quarral most people here have with dragon is the way he responded to the constructive critisism they offered rather than taking theyre advice, and at least seeing what it looked like before denounced their critisism. after all, the terrain forum is at least partly there to post terrain and recive constructive critisism

All your shots seem to be zoomed up... Please take shots from farther away. Even in the terrain contest before, you had zoomed up shots. I can only see a small part which seems to be all there is in the city.

Why can't cities be 'amazing, great, unique and wonderful?' I've seen some cities created in the WC3 editor that were awesome-looking. Don't assume that basics equate to maximum quality in WC3 city design, because some terrainers can prove otherwise.

Yes, this is the terrain forum, and we encourage people to share their work here. We encourage people to share their work, not brag about it. Furthermore, we also give out constructive criticism to work of lesser quality, like the forummers have done above.

As for the terrain playability/maneuverability issue, this is obviously something that a mapmaker should take into account when designing terrain for a playable map. However, the terrain forum is also somewhat of an artistic showcase. That is why people here prefer eye-candy terrains above playable/maneuverable terrains.

Show off campaign-compatible terrains in a released campaign, and people there will appreciate it. Show off lush, vivid, eye-candy terrain screenshots in the terrain forum, and people here will appreciate it. :)
