Problems With Version/compatability

I know there's about a dozen topics on this, and I've looked at them all.
I've tried the import scripts, the art tools, the works.
As far as I know, the import scripts do not work with the latest version of gmax/3dsmax. I looked around discreet's site, and there's no way to get an older version from what I see.
So did you guys just get all of it awhile ago and not have to re-install anything ever, or am I missing something?

Try to find with google an earlier version from max (4 or 5). I bought mine long time ago, and still have version 5.

All that's listed is buying it, or tutorials :( I tried that already.

Ah wait, i remember i have somewhere a demo cd with max 5 english on (got it with a book).
