photoshop help

i've been using photoshop 7.0 for skinning and about 1day after i started the color selection screwed up. now insted of picking the color and then how bright/dark it is i have to move the big screen and the little bar beside it to get different colors (if i have it at the top the colors are say green yellow and red and at the bottem its blue black orange brown ect...

i think you were editing the hue/sat/lum or something. Select those instead of the R G and B ;)

You have nine different possible ways to choose colors, as indicated by those yellow arrows I drew. The one you choose will go in the vertical bar to the right of the big square. The other two in the set will be the X and Y of the big square. An example is below: I chose hue (my personal favorite), so saturation and brightness are as the X and Y.
