I'm thinking about purchasing a scanner somehow (though it will most likely be a short day at the North Pole before I can afford it) and would like some recommendations from the art forum community, if you would -- what works best, and what programs do you need in addition? |

what works best... hmmm... go with the brand you trust the most... but be sure to get an expensive one, for the cheap ones break, dont scan dark enough, or is just plain shitty... i have a moderate one... all you need is a good image editor... psp, ps, NOT ms paint |

it mostly depends on what OS you're running on :P To be honest, I got a cheap one in 1998, and it hasnt glitched or broke yet :P |

well. i think its best to go with Hewlette Packard. I have one an has all these features that come with it. i dunno if its cheap cuz i got it for free. OCR on that thing is great! and the pictures... well i dunno much about what to say about it. look at my scanned pics and you say what's the quality of it. the comics are unedited except for the fazct they're shrunk 50%. |

oh yea. another good, cheap, and old scanner is the pacific image scanace 1236p. its very old, but hasn't broke down or anything on me. its like from 1999. or about that. its slow when you use the scanning application that comes wiith it, but it scans really really fast when you use photoshop with it. the bad part is not very good compatability or so. you'll need to download the patch for windows 2000, but it won't work with XP. i think the HP one that i have now costs about $200 (US). but i got it for free cuz my aunt didn't know how to use it. |

I got a Cannon Lide 30 for $80 but I hear you can get them for $30. Mine works great and it is only an inch thick. |
