water edges running from snow to dirt

I have a large map with a river that spans pretty much the whole map, starting in some snow covered hills and running down to the other side which doesn't have any snow. but when I was making the river and I tried to change from snow to dirt on the waters edge it changes the entire edge of all the water .. how can I get it to let me have a snow edge where there's snow and then change to a dirt edge for the other parts?

It is very challenging. An easier way is to use WEU or UMSWE to do it, but it still messes up sometimes. Just try putting dirt, it may or may not work, but WE was never intended to support multiple cliffs connecting (Damn blizzard...)

How about you try using the technique Draco used for a Terrain Contest? The sized down waterfalls to look like a river. Use that, and you won't have to worry about cliffs.

that sounds pretty awesome, could you put up a link to some screens of it or maybe the map itself so I can see what the outcome looks like?

Why should I give it to you? Ha! The very idea... PREPOSTEROUS!

Anyway, there's the map.

No, but sized down waterfalls are only good at giving 90 degree increments.

Due to the horrendous way in which the game initializes unit and doodad models, the x and y has literally nothing to do with the coordinate system, but the angle at which the model is looked at. X being horizontal, Y being horizontal (planar with X), and Z being vertical.

So... up and down river = works. Side-to-side river = works...

You could try starting a new map with initial cliff height at shallow or deep water, and raise the terrain out of the water to get smooth cliffs, and allow for you to change tiles with no problem.
