Systematic milkshape problem re. shadows... need help

I've checked all my models and each have this same problem...

it seems that one half of my unit/building is always shadowed.. even when it shouldn't be...

eg. I'll import a box into a map... the rear half (side a) will be shadowed as normal and the front (side b) illuminated...

if I rotate it 180 degrees the formerly illuminated 'side b' becomes shadowed as it should but 'side a' remains shadowed as if it were still facing the other way...

This is the case for units as well...

in wc3 viewer things appear satisfactorily as I rotate the units around but in game the problem occurs...

Here's a pic... I just found out by chance that the little segment of wall at the top doesn't suffer from the problem... so the cause is probably something I'm doing wrong...

but what? I've gone over the model of that horse, making sure the polys were faced correctly...

is it model stats?

do you get these shadow issues in 3dsmax?

I guess its caused by milkshape. In Max we can play around with different texture settings (unshaded,2-sided etc...) wich you cant with MS. Pretty sure its MS.

no i never fixed that problem.

i havnt looked at the code in a very long time but if i remember i tried forever trying to find what is causing this. i know it isnt a milkshape error because i calculated my own normals. the wierd thing is that some models seem to light perfectly, and some look horrible. if anyone wants to look at the code, download it here.
