How to change a melee hero into a ranged hero?

Any smart way doing it. I know you can use metamorphosis or the Bear Form ability. But is there any other way to do it without having to mess with those abilities?

or the "berzerker upgrade ability"
just set the Chaos upgrade to 1 or 0 when u want the hero changed...but i dunno how will it affect his levels and/or skills....

the best way to keep the hero skills is to make a failsafe trigger like blizz in the level where grom turns chaos....

it must be done with the abilities, unless you'd rather use triggers....that will be a lot harder...
