Excesive structures challenge

while ive been working on the ruined city ive made a couple of exsesivly large structures, aswell as few for other therrains, and i thought id open a challenge for it.
the rules are simple;
Any tile set
The structure can be built out of anything, custom models are alowed, but if theyre not available on the DL section, you can not use them for the majority of the structure.
The structure can be anything, a building, tower, coluseum, even i giant very complicated tree if you so wish.
Entries can be screens or maps, no screen shot limite.
the point of this challenge is for people to come up with something origional, it dosbt have to be huge (although most of mine will be), as long as its detailed.
Ill post a closing date later on.
[edit] you can have as many entries (mulitiple maps) as you want

Hey this sounds fun. I have a question though. Is it the outside of a large building or the inside of a large building or does it not matter? Also, we just want to convey a sense of scale? I think I may want to do this one.

Could you make large amounts of tightly packed buildings, count as excessive, like a sprawl type effect. Or are you only allowed one structure as the focus of the terrain?

you can make it the inside or outside, but im probably going to stick to outside, i find it much easier. scale is the most probably the most important thing. but a not a nececity, if its small but detailed and/or origional its just as good.
you can use lots of little structures or one large one, or both, a centeral structure with a sprwaling metropalis expanding from it for example.
the way you interprate the chalenge is up to you, as long as its new or generaly impresive

This might be cool, I'll try to do the inside of a building because it seems most will do the outside.

This isn't really all that good right now. I need some ideas to help spruce it up. Anyone have any ideas I can do to make it better?

its small. but a good start, you could use those walls and scaled up towers and castle models alon with anythin that look suitably human and castle-like to make a gaint castle, id sugest starting with a giant castle model in the center then expand outward in a pentagon or hexagon shape with two layers of those walls, then fill the rest with towers, and maby some village buildings if you want a town inside the castle walls. just think of huge towers in the distance while youre laying the whole thing out. add some white fog and maby some rain at the end, and it should look good

Actually it is really big. Maybe its just the screen shot. I put some knights in for scale and added the fog and rain. For some reason I can't get it to be night anymore. I don't really want to make a castle or a town or anything on the inside. I am just trying to focus on the tower and gate instead. Although I don't know what I can add to it, to make it better.

Also, how do you make it so that when you make a custom doodad of the scout tower, it always stays a scout tower and not randomly turn into a cannon tower? I believe this problem also applies to other units/buildings you try to create doodads out of that share the same model type thing.

Its looking realy good, maby a few more cannons, buts i just like cannons. I still think you need some eye candy in the background, a few giant arcane sanctum, just draw the veiwers eye round the whole pic, and not just at the gate and walls

What do you mean add things in the background? The wall takes up the whole area. I don't know if you noticed but I edited my post a bit. Where would I put a giant arcane sanctum? If you want me to I can get screenshots of different angles, although the sky messes up sometimes.

By the way, very nice colosseum. It looks new and different/original than the other colosseums that have been made so far. I am assuming you start almost all your maps with shallow water. Unless you really want it to look flooded.

the camera angles great, a real epic shot. but i mean in the distant back ground. if you set the fog values to 1000 and 5000/6000 (roughly). then put the arcane sanctum (i used this only as an example, any tall towers are good) so you can just see it fading in the fog. it should make it appear as though the gate is guarding something, like a great citadel, and the veiwer will hopefully get the impression of seeing a massive city or fortifation behind the walls without you haveing to make a great city

I thought about it, and I might make the city. Although I probably won't post it in this thread because it isn't exactly a single excessive structure.
