Is there a way to make it so that ur units dont attack other units just by seeing them... you must order that unit to attack before it does anything? also can i make it so a unit may only have the attack ground attack and not attack unit? |

For the first question I think you can set the aquisition range of the unit to 0 and that should stop it from auto attacking nearby enemies. |

wrong answer, setting the aquisition range to 0 will also set its attack range to 0, thus preventing it from attacking :) you could give them the Shadowmeld ability that doesn't cloak them and force the units to use it when not moving......that shadowmeld ability must also have the "Auto-aquire targets" box Unchecked or set to False.... for the second one, well.....that would be a tricky one, its Atack/Weapon Type must be Artillery, in order to have Attack Ground, but i guess you would have to ask someone else how to disable the Attack button.... hope it helps :) |

As far as I know, you could remove everything from the unit's attack targets and put something to the splash damage targets, to answer the second question. |

yes, that should do the trick.....that would solve the "auto attack targets" issue too :) you could try that, for real :) |

Another way would be to disable attacks alltogether and simulate attack ground with a spell (if there is no such spell that would have a projectile and do AoE damage, then just trigger one.) |

Never heard that one before. Somehow, I question its validity. I'm going to bed. Someone test this in a map. |

Just tested it. Setting it to 0 pretty much ignored range. I put a paly and a nuetral hostile creep close by and they immediately attacked each other like normal. I changed them BOTH to 1 and they didn't bother each other until I told the paly to attack the creep. If anything attacks then they will respond so make sure everything in range has acquisition set to 1. |

THERE IS such a spell and its called Orb of Annihilation, great idea Anitar .... the Obsidian Statue in Destroyer Form has that, and it gives attack bonus (in this case your damage) and does AOE damage... and you've put a melee hero, not a range-attack unit (in other words, Attack Type - Missile), so try it with an archer and see what happens... |

related question here: is there a such trigger where: if a projectile doesn't actually touch the model/unit, it takes no dmg cause the campaign im working on requires that a projectile actually touches the model |

Isn't there like a 'heat seaking' (I know thats the wrong term but you get the idea) switch on the attack? If you turn that off then I'm pretty sure if you don't get hit you don't take damage. Everyone complains about NE towers because of this. If units have good movement speed and the missle speed is lowered you could dodge most things easily. Edit: Just remembered the term, its like Target Homing. |

yeah but even w/ that turned off, the unit still takes a little dmg or does it? |
| 04-23-2004, 06:58 PM | #14 |
With NE towers it takes a little damage because it's splash. If you just have a regular missle and it misses then it probably won't. You'll have to test and see. I suggest a slow missle rate or they'll hit before you can move hehe |

nono, missle homing is not the thing (or at least is not the whole thing). As you can see in game, archers hit their mark even if it moves. That is because their attack type is missle, and it deals damage to the target unit; if you change the attack type to artillery, then it deals damage to the point instead, and if the enemy unit has moved away by then, then it deals no dmg. |
