I was wondering what you guys think about heroes in tower defenses. Do you think they are a nice addition? Do they make the game more enjoyable? What kind of things should heroes bring to the game if they were included, if they should be included at all. Please explain your opinion in detail :D |

I personally think having heroes in td maps is very good. 1 - because it makes the player think even more, instead of just building towers, they now have to build there towers and control a hero at the same time, and i know for some people this can be a challenge. 2 - Its more fun. i don't know about others, but just building towers does have it limits, especially when there are a limited amount of towers. But with heroes, there is more fun/options. Anyway thats my two cents - Enjoy. |

Depends on what you mean by hero... Hero TOWER - Yes. Hero (Mobile Unit) - No. |

It's not that I don't know about it, but that was kind of off topic because I wanted people to explain the pros and cons of having normal heroes (mobile, not tower) in maps. Sure, hero towers are cool, but it takes away the whole point of the hero... it's immobile. |

Personally I prefer no heros. A tenet of the Tower Defense that I've always held is that your stuff is stationary and the baddy's stuff is movable. Course, I also don't like it when the baddies can attack your towers, either, for reference. So, a hero tower would be okay, although it would be the key point to your defense, probably, and I prefer to have a TD where no single tower is your lynchpin. This is really about what I want to see in a map, I guess, and not particularly about your question so much. So yea, if you're going to have mobile units one way or another, I think it'd be reasonable to have summoned units that exist on a short timer, so they're almost more like an auxiliary spell effect than a power of their own. Summonable Timered heros might be kind of fun. Give them low exp level req's and skills that don't scale too quickly. |

Non-tower heroes should be kept for mini games only. |

I have thusfar determined that in my TD I will have two other, expandable types of towers. I will have hero towers, which gain abilities which give benefits to: Nearby towers, allied (NPC) army units, etc. And I will have towers which simply upgrade for a cost. I'll of course have to turn off XP sharing though. The abilities may or may not turn out like I want though, however in my grandiose very-difficult-to-make TD I plan on implementing as much as I can that will make it attractive and replayable. 3 game modes, 1-8 players, unit-versus-unit combat, lots of upgrades, abilities. Etc. |

Well, my stance on this subject is that heroes are a nice addition to a tower defense, as they can't harm the game as long as they are optional and uneeded to win the game, however, they are still there if anyone wants to use them. Some people prefer them, and some don't. It's best to have the option of heroes, so for the people who want them, you can have them... I also think that heroes keep the game more interesting and involving because people will have something to do while they aren't building towers. |

The best way to make a TD interesting and involving is to set the time required to build a tower so that you have to build constantly. Add some activated abilities to the towers so that players have to micro them... But do not add HEROES to a TOWER defence map. I mean, it is not a tower defence map then, it's a hero defence. |
