'Modern Warfare' Discussion Thread

Now that we have most of the team organised, I have decided to post this thread telling people exactly whats happening. Ok first of, we have our staff which goes as follows... (subject to change)

Andrew (me) - In charge of this project, 3d animation, slk file editing, UI, designer, and general organistion of the whole thing.
David - 3d Modelling
Edward (Lu Baihu) - Triggers, Tech Tree designer, and Info gatherer of this War in Iraq right now.
Dylan - Main music creator
Alex - Additional music creator
Steve - Admin
Lance - Terrain

We also have a few others that are currently joining, icluding a skinner, but I don't know his name yet.

Ok here is where we are at...

This is a total conversion of WarCraft III, where we are making it based on the war in Iraq right now. We plan to make it as realistic as possible. We have four new teams which are, Coalition, Saddams forces, Free Iraqi's, and Terrorists. We are making all four teams playable for melee maps, and will create a very in-depth campaign based on the real events of the war. So far we are working on the Coalition team for the Beta demo, which will allow people to use only the coalition in melee maps. From there we plan to release the other three teams, then the campaign.

For this mod we are making new everything. This includes units, buildings, UI, abilities, tilesets, music, and anything else which can be changed. So obviously this is quite a big challenge and we could use a few more people to help out.

Sadly enough our 3d modeller is going away for 3 weeks to Monte Cassino, Italy, so another 3d modeller would be good to cover his place. And someone to make a new console and icons would be good.

Anyway, thats the story so far, but we will have a website up soon to host all our stuff. If you would like to put ideas foward about anything in this project, go ahead, we want input from others, so this game can be as good as possible.

Hmm, this is my disagreement; a one-or-two-level campaign sounds more logical in my mind ... does anyone know how to change the 3D "person" and background in the campaign selection screens? (either a generic GI for the Coalition or a group of them, an postwar Iraqi soldier, a fedayeen, and Saddam)

Hey, yes we do know how to, and are changing as i speak. (well not really) but really soon. If anyone has ideas for levels etc post them here so we can do whats u's want us to do.

B.T.W. why do we only want a one or two level campaign? You can't do much with only 1 or two levels? Or are we talking like an orc campaign stlye campaign?

And.... Oh yea, we have at least 7 models done, but they need animations, but my brother still has my laptop, so work is slow. But the models will be skiined real soon the s/s will be up.

hey hows it going? WE have just decided on our Beta release to have a few campaign maps, and a few melee maps for the Coalition team.

Its going really good, tons of models have been made, but i still need touvw them etc. But we really need one thing as of this moment. WE need some one to create a few new tilesets. These would include the desert and beaches/docks of Iraq. But ill get Lu Baihu to post the list of tilesets needed as he is planning the campaign.

We plan to release our Beta demo about 4/5 weeks from now, when our modeller gets back. Till then ill continue work on uvw. I know ive said it lots but s/s will be really soon. Just trying to make them look better.

It's Doomsberg's opinion, but ... how's multiple airstrike icons sound? :)

(A-10 Thunderbolt II use has almost certainly declined in the postwar era, even though they were used often in combating Saddam's regulars; however, fighter jets or dedicated bombers might be more appropriate for other eras ... or maybe the icon and model of the attacking unit should change throughout the campaign?)

I thought that icon looked pretty good. How exactly would we incorporate multiple icons for the same ability?

Well, since you know more about this War Lu Baihu, u decide. Im really just organising the team and modeling/aniamtion/sounds. So if there are any questions like that can u answer them, because im overly busy.

Anway first s/s of a few models. But they still need reskinned so they will look like crap. Apart from that nothing else much to say.

Okay! Regarding "multiples", I mean that in later campaign maps, the icon of the Airstrike ability and the model of the attacking plane could change to reflect the changes in US strategy. (For example, in an early map it could be the A-10 icon and a A-10 attacking, while in a later map it could be a F-16.)

Thanks for this command authority, Doomsberg.

P.S. Great news re the Sniper School training - I just need to know how to change the units I want to be able to convert the Barracks soldiers TO, and I'll have the abilities up and running.

Ok, i get ya, multiple icons would be good.

Re: the models - we made them, and i have made bitmaps for them if you want - or do u wanna make them from scratch?

Glad to hear your keen for this job Lu Baihu, I'm just so run off my feet it isn't funny. Anyway, if you want/can, can u make a bit of a unit list, with each units specific details. E.g. what they can upgrade to, what items they need to attack etc. If you do ill set up the slk files.

Oh yeah, and to answer pantsonnas' questions... the demo file is looking about just below 100mb. and the full will be aprrox 200-300mb. Why so big u ask, the file is a complete seperate install from wc3. So it has every file it needs to run. I doubt there will be any lite versions, unless someone has an idea of how to make it lite. And you can do terrain in like 4 weeks, but uve got work to do already.

Now finally what we have all been waiting for - evidence of our work. Im sorry the textues look crap, but now Anzwhore is gonna help a little, so seen these baby's will be lookin good. Only have 3 models wih any textures at all and the rest have no textures. There are currently at least 12 models made, but as i said no textures, so they look crap.

Yeah the pics are - Apache, BlackHawk, and M1A1 with a machine gunner on top. The picture quality is low so deal with it. But soon i will make a level in Wc3 showing what these units can do.

And for our sigs - David is making one now. When its finished i will give it to all of you's.
