Master Contest Discussion

It's certainly a favourite, and I see many of you telling the tales of old. I certainly enjoyed the master Contest when I joined, actually entering a concept myself.

I realise there is another thread concerning this, but I wanted to see a poll on everyone's thoughts about setting up a new Master contest.

I want everyone's suggestions, all will be considered.

------ THE MASTER CONTEST! ------

This is a contest coupled with all the artistry techniques: Concept Art, Modeling and Skinning.

The contest will comprise of four seasons, each corresponding to each race of the Warcraft 3 world, and each consisting of 3 phases.

Competitors are free to enter all 3 stages and all 4 seasons of the competition, but may only win 1 stage per contest. However, existing winners won't be denied entry to further stages or seasons, and their entries will be rated, just not awarded.
All entries must be original unit ideas relevant to the season. No existing units may be presented, and any deviation from the theme will be disqualified.

Each phase of a season lasts 1 month. The next season will commence at the end of the concept phase of the previous season, allowing seasons to process simultaniously, with no 'gaps' in any phase of the competition until a season is complete.

The winning concepts from phase 1, will be presented as the object for the modelling phase. Competors must create one of the concepts, and will be awarded not only on model quality, but trueness to concept and Warcraft style.

Finally the winning models will be presented for the Skinning phase, and skinning entries will similarly be judged on quality, trueness to concept and Warcraft style.

PRIZES:

Nothing material can really be offered. Competitors are in this for the joy and glory. Your ideas may be brought to life for many to use.

JUDGES:

Anyone is free to enter the competion as a competitor. Those who do cannot therefore judge for that particular season.

Each phase will be judged by 5 persons. First seats will go to non-entering moderators of the relevant section. Additional seats will be available to non-entering artists. The Lord is guaranteed a spot if he so wishes.

3 – No arguing. If somebody has offended you, use private messages. Any arguing that begins will be instantly uprooted.

5 - No double posts.
6 – Please, post fruitful arguments. Don't post everything that just comes up to your mind.
7 - Nothing besides the subjected artistic category may be posted here.

I'd like one more MC... Not much I can offer, but I think we should have at least 5 judges to keep it fair.

hell i wouldnt know how to do prizes in a new master contest...

but the idea is certainly great.

i agree with ravenlord, there should be more judges.

judgement should be performed in the same way as before, judging on all fronts that are impoortant with new characvters.

i would suggest using 5 stages:

NE and other nature crap
UD and other scary crap
Horde and other fierce crap
Alliance and other Holy crap
Neutral and... other.. eeh.. crap.. (including burning legeon, naga, panda... whatever you can think of)(elephant people ^_^)

I like keeping with the old theme idea, but how about we do the expansions/others for MC2?

Fel Orcs
Nerubian
Panderan
Dranai
Blood Elves
etc...

I fully agree and back a 'group' of judges.

What about multiple entries?

you can have multiple entries, but you cvan only win once.

and about fel orcs and stuff.. thats too tight, make it broader

like just 'fel beings' in general, make groups...

I guess you want to use your Fel Elves for another purpose :)

I think we could group all 'other' races into 4 groups if we tried.

they are not 'my felelves', they are the groves fel elves, and the grove's got a bigass crew :)

Another contest is a good idea, but the first one isn't finished yet, as I saw.
I have some ideas for the groups:
First Season - Dwarves and Elves(Humans' allies).
Second Season - Naga and Merloc\Murgol(Sea creatures).
Third Season - Dranei, Demons and Fel Orcs(Outlanders).
Fourth - Beasts, creeps, natural stuff for a change.
You should keep the other stuff for the third contest :P

WH... I take it that you have read through the unofficial MC2 thread... right?

I think what we decided on in that thread would be best.

Having a judging pool would eliminate any possible bias.

Prizes? How about points? When we get the store back then we will need them.

As for multiple entries... I say we do it like free response questions on AP tests. You can enter multiple times, but you must pick the one entry you wish to be judged.

I assume that you will hand pick the most un-biased people though... just my suggestions.

and WH? What about the fact that we don't have 5 mods in this section? Will you just pick respected members who are affiliated with this section then?

Or do you plan to give us 3 more mods?

I read the other thread. Naga will most likely be season 1. There's no reason why it shouldn't be, and people already have entries done or being worked on.

As for judges, it will be dynamic pooling of whoever is available, mods first, then respected members/regulars, who do not enter.

Hmm before making any second master contests, we need to FINISH THE OLD ONE.


First of all, Whitehorn, could you move the contest and delete the contest depositorum (or whatever) forum? I think that was the worst thing Cookie done as a director.


And also, people: Do you want any prizes or do you preffer just the joy and honor?
