Hi! I'm making an AoS-type map, and I'm about 70% done(all my heroes are made) Right now I'm looking for an ORIGINAL hero selection system. I'm usually creative, but this time I can't think of one. My heroes are pretty complicated, so I need the selection to include a Text so you can know what your hero is. Here are the ones I DON'T want: -Shade to circle of power -Click on hero to choose -Toggle with Arrows, choose with Esc -You can look at the hero, if you issue him an order you select him |

I don't know about the hero selection but for the text just create a region and make a message pop up for half a minute or so. |

I know how to do text, I just meant that the selection needs to have a "reading time" |

What do you mean by reading time? |

In a situation like this, you've got to think about what your priorities are, and what's wrong with the existing systems so that they don't satisfy these priorities. For example, it seems like you want your system to fully show the details of your heros. I don't think you're going to be able to make an efficient system that does that, unless you just let them play around with the heros and try them out beforehand, which is very time-intensive. To a certain extent, I think you're going to have to accept that people will learn the heros and how they work as they play the map. |

That the selection isn't instant. It needs a bit of time to read info that will be displayed about the hero you are looking at. DOn't bother about that, I just need an original hero selection |

Well, some kind of tavern? Where you "purchase" your hero. You know, then you can read all the tooltips and further on :D |

Tavern sounds good. If you have a lot of heroes you could have multiple taverns. |

How about when you click a hero, they step forward and do some little move like in Diablo 2? And when you select a diff one the first moves back and second moves forward. You get a description of them too. |

That's not original. In one of the Aos games I played, they had a tavern with heroes. Good try though. |

I'd listen to panto. There's no point doing a hero selection system that's fancy, but doesn't achieve anything. The Swat vs Res Evil map made the mistake of trying some weird selection system that is actually bugged sometimes. I would say that an interesting method would be to have an opening cinematic-type thing that allows players to see the heroes in action. Giev the players full shared control but reserve the hero buttons for the computer player. This way the players get a glimpse of the action before playing. |

How bout a Ogre Battle/Tactics Ogre like thing where the game askes you a bunch of questions at the start and depending on how you answer them, you get a specific hero with the appropriate answers. Questions like... You catch a thief stealing bread to feed his family. do you A ) let him go, B ) Alert the guards and get reward, C ) Let the thiefs conscience be the theifs guide. you know questions along those lines. |

The reason I want an original selection, is because I'm making my AoS VERY original, it has man small special concepts like never seen before, and all my heroes have a special concept. |

I would rather have original spells or original quest or original items. The hero selection system is normally only used in the beginning and isn't really that immportant. I just like selection system that allow you to see what the hero looks like, what his or her spells are, and range-melee-str-agi-int. Maybe walk and attack speed, too. |
