We moderators are discussing the possibility of hosting another terrain contest here at wc3campaigns. While we have not quite gotten all the rules, awards, and factors for judging ironed out yet, we can give some information about the contest. Background I'm sure some of you will remember our last terrain contest. While it was fun seeing all the screenshots of great terrain, the judging was less than ideal, with lots of disagreements and a fair amount of accusations thrown about. Taking the mistakes of the last contest into consideration, the moderators and I have gone about trying to make the contest fairer for all participants. I won't go into detail about the changes right now, so please wait for the official thread to appear. All (ok most) of your questions will be answered there. Purpose Now here's the part where you get to have some power over the contest. The real purpose of this thread is for you forumgoers to brainstorm any themes you would like to terrain. For example, a popular theme in the terrain forum about a month or two ago was the tree village (first terrained by PheoniX_VII in the last terrain contest). Another example of a theme would be Pheonix_IV's underwater scenes. We moderators will choose ONE theme from the many themes that we're sure you can come up with. We will probably pick the most challenging theme, or one that no one has ever done before. SO! Let's all turn on our thinking caps and get to work! |

How about mountain city of somekind? Its really hard to make realistic looking cities and also make them fit to the mountain. |

How about a theme of The Forbidden City? Maybe Chinese architecture would be too much of a stretch. Perhaps Purgatory, or Nirvana. Or classical Athens under siege from alien termites? |

what if we just asked a question and the terrainer answered it with their terrain, something like. "What if evil always prevailed?" |

Yeah.. Or something like some WarCraft location, but with evil look :> .. |

o in that case, DEFINITELY a city theme, on a small map. like no epic sized citys (-.-) but maybe 64x64? |

Well we're looking for something original or challenging. A city isn't all that hard to do anymore, and it's been done forever. Unless you want to give the city a twist or something. But still, cities have been overdone. How about something like... **** I can't think of anything. Comon people. |

How about making a scene from your favorite movie; of course, you post which movie it's from. I think that'd be an interesting one to see. That way, there'd be a completely different array of terrains for people to look at, and whichever terrain looks most like the movie wins! |

Alright, maybe that can be used for a later contest... I agree it would make judging tough, but it would give a good challenge to the competition. Or, you could just choose one movie (like LOTR or something like that), and have people terrain for that movie... Another idea of mine is to make a terrain of a very tall mountain looking out over a huge area of land. An example would be something like Mt. Kilimanjaro with it's snowy peaks, and unexpected cracks dropping hundreds of feet, looking out over the majority of Africa. The last idea I have is a prehistoric terrain. No sign of civilization. Every here-and-there a cave, maybe a little rain off in the distance. A small fire glowing inside of a cave. This would allow people to have pure terrain. That would be pretty interesting as well. |
