Where Should You Start When Making a Drawing? Where would be the easyest place?

If its a figure, you want to plan out the composition - what pose will the figure adopt? Try stick men sketches, until you are happy with a pose, and proportions, then plan out the anatomy and attachments with basic shapes. then yuo can build up the detail as you require.

actually, it depends on your proportions. try experimenting w/ different view angles to learn which starting place suits you

w0w, lol i always just drew in detail, from head down.. no wonder why im so horrible!

Yeah... the whole pre-sketch thing is probably best.

I'd start with the head first (just a basic oval shape) so that you can use it to define the proportions of the rest of the body.

Then go in and do your detail work... which seems to be exactly what these other fine people have said.

i usually start by putting the tip of a pencil onto a peice of paper.

totally depends...

when i'm sober, i like to scetch composition and stuff first, then add the contoures (or whatever the hell thats called in english) and start adding more and more detail untill its finished...

then, if i drew it with ballpoint i add some thicker lines and hatched shading and stuff, when its pencil, i grab a fineliner and clean it up...

when i'm stoned however, i just start off with the eyes, and build the entire thing around that-- you wouldnt notice the diffrence, though.

it's cuz you're into drawing so much your hands know how to draw by themselves.

I used to start from feet, then from head, and now i start from stick figure ^_^
