hey everybody, this is only bout my 3rd post here but i am by no means a noob :>

this map i'm working on is a revolutionary new concept!! The basic jist of it is 8 players in teams of 2, where one player is a Hero(max lv. 20, 5-level skills, 2-lv. ultimate, + 3-lv.Attribute Bonus) and the other is an Army (with techtree, upgrades, buildings, etc.). Lots of teamwork is involved, and since it's 2v2v2v2 (for 4-team FFA, whatever you wanna call it), the game is never too linear.

Terrain is 4-way and mostly symmetrical (except natural parts) and many creeps are scattered across the map. There's a large central citadel which has some shops and Fountains that restore health in the day and mana at night. Possibly some mini-quests, yet to be finalized.

The teams are Red, Blue, Green, and Purple. 3 heroes are available to each side (one for each attribute, and very varied) and Army players posess a wide techtree including everything from footie-types to air. Gold income for army players is timed, but they can also get gold from creeping and borrowing money from their Hero.

Heroes are 100% original, utilizing totally customized skills and a flavorful array of models. also plenty of custom icons!

so far i'm 3/4 done. ^_^ hope yall like the idea!

It sounds like a lot of good ideas but some questions do arise:

What do the hero players do when theipartner is starting his base? I assume they creep but you better have very weak creeps cause the heroes are on their own.

For the central citadel, how are you gonna keep it from being controlled by one team? Being a symmetrical map im guessing the citadel is a crossroads of paths. You could have some creeps that periodically spawn here that give little money and exp so to keep players from camping here.

This has potential to be a good map.

thanks. As for the issue of waiting for base building, the army player starts with their town hall/barracks building and enough resources to build a footie or two. Other buildings so far include a Shop, an upgrade building (fountain models; red = blood, green = defiled, blue = normal, purp = mana) with Rejuvenation,
and an Assault Center (trains artillery + knight-type). The starting creeps so far are moderately weak, but soloing is kinda tough. The bases come with 3 invulnerable moderate-damage towers situated on high terrain, so using those can make creeping easier if problems arise.

the central citadel is intended to be a neutral zone, i may add triggers to it so that units can't attack or cast spells while inside, and also be invulnerable. That should solve it :>

also, since the start of the map is a mini-cinematic (the screen fades out for a few seconds in the very beginning) i've decided to not make Army players watch. However it does give them a brief sneak-peak at the complete minimapa, which then blacks out to all black except for the immediate base area.

anyway, you asked for screenies; here's the minimap (incomplete and a bit outdated but oh well.). for some reason it won't let me upload the screenie i took of an ariel view of the Citadel, i shrunk it a lot but it's still too big :( ah well i'll figure it out eventually.

The screenie you want to upload is probably a ".bmp". change it to ".jpeg". If it still is too big upload to some webspace and link to it.

k, i think i'll elaborate on the Army players now.
I've put a moderate emphasis on upgrades, of which there are a lot. However, in place of tier-based levels (waiting for next level town hall) i've made it so that the various unit-specific upgrades depend on the level of the Attack and Defense upgrades. works quite well imo.

all four Armies (red, blue, green, purp) have the same basic unit-types, but no shared models. I'm trying to make each one distinct so the game doesn't feel generic. I've also tried to include a lot of uncommon models and soundsets so things don't get stale. As for upgrades they're more flavorful than most, it's not stuff like "HP upgrade level 1" like you'd see in footie wars.

Unit Types:

Worker: builds stuff and repairs.
Upgrades available: None.
Models: Water elemental (blue), treant(green), Fel Peon (red), Wisp (purple)

Footie-Type: average melee fighter.
Upgrades available: HP upgrade (2 levels), Armor-type upgrade (Normal -> Heavy)
Models: Zombie, Dalaran Reject, Fel Grunt, Felbeast

Archer-Type: ranged fighter. Each has a different arrow ability which is researched later on, so the Archers are less clone-like.
Upgrades Available: Bow Upgrade (damage, range, arrow speed, hp), Arrow Ability
Models: Skeleton Archer, Gnoll Archer, Centaur Archer, Razormane Quilthrower
Abilities: Ice Arrows (auto, mana), Poison Arrows (passive), Searing Arrows (based off Orb of Anniilation for splash; auto, mana), Evil Barbs (item corruption, does -1 armor; passive)

Knight-Type: bigger melee fighter, has considerably more HP than footies but is really expensive. Has a passive % chance ability.
Upgrades Available: Passive % ability, HP regeneration
Models: white Magnataur, Sea Giant Hunter, Flesh Golem, Satyr Shadowdancer
Abilities: Bash, Pulverize, Critical Strike, Evasion

Artillery: long-range mechanical. Duh.
Upgrades Available: Move Speed Upgrade
Models: Catapult, Infernal Contraption(cannon), Meat Wagon(w/ corpse pickup for hero-related reasons), Obsidian Statue

Buildings:

Base - trains Workers, Footie-Types, and Archer-types.
Upgrades Researched: Footie HP upgrade, footie Armor-type upgrade, Archer Bow upgrade, Archer Arrow ability, Backpack (affects everything but worker and tank)
Models: Icecrown Obelisk (all)

Shop: sells basic items + can be used to pawn items for cash.
Models: Icey treasure Box, Wyvern Cage 1, Power Generator, Arcane Sanctum

Fountain: has rejuvenation and dmg/armor upgrades
Upgrades researched: Unit Armor, Unit Attack
Models: Fountainf of Life, Defiled Fountain, Fountain of blood, Fountain of Mana

Assault Center: trains Artillery and Knight-types.
Upgrades Researched: Artillery movespeed, Knight ability, Knight HP regen
Models: Gnoll Tent (all)

You should 'theme' the races so they dont appear to be just a random mix of models.

footie= felbeast (purple felhound)

i also made the heroes color-themed and did colored text for ALL the tooltips
:> i do appreciate your respect/interest in color matching n stuff, i was beggining to think it was just a loony obsession of mine.
BTW i also set the teams to races for interface/music reasons:

Green = NE
Blue = Human
Purple = Undead
