Burrowing woes

I've searched the forums and no one seems to have answered this to any resonable extent. My problem is with the burrow skill. Whenever I give a custom unit (based off teh carrion beetle with a modified carrion beetle skill that morphs to a burrowed unit also based off the carrion beetle) the burrow ability and give it to the computer player, all it'll do is repeatedly burrow and unburrow the things. Funky, but not very useful.

So, has anyone done on research into how teh burrow skill works? Care to share?

So you're trying to figure out why the computer AI orders the unit to burrow and unburrow constantly? I'm a little confused about what your question is.

I think I did not quite understand what you said : is your burrow ability based of carrion beetle ?
I'm French and I don't know exactly what spell carrion beetle is in English, but I guess it is an attack spell, right ? Which unit is using this spell usually ?

well since the french guy asked i'll explain carrion beetle.

it summons Beetles (they look like scarabs, with big pincers) for corpses, up to 5 of them, and they're permanent. They're summoned by the Crypt Lord (the big Undead bug hero). the Burrow skill he's referring to is a skill the Beetles themselves get, which makes them go underground.

anyways i know how to get the Burrow skill to work. first set the alternate form unit in the ability. Next go to the Units on obj. editor and set "Dependancy Equivalents" to the burrowed form for both units. :> viola! finished burrow.

Yea i did the dependency equivalents thing.

Unfortunately all the AI will do with the things is burrow/unburrow. The computer seems to refuse to use any unit spawned in its burrowed form properly.

Also, if you order a comp controlled burrowing unit to burrow, it automatically burrows all other burrow capable units (eitehr within an area or across the map, not sure about that).

I want burrow capable units for two things: The first is to have units that burrow underground when attacked, popping back up a while later to continue harrassing you. On this count i figure i could just use phase shift with some fancy animation triggers to achieve the same effect.

The 2nd use for burrowing units is to have them come out of the ground under the player's feet. The problem with this is that when i spawn units in the burrowed form, all they do is unburrow, then they burrow again before they unburrow back out and so on until they get killed. I tried and I can't seem to figure out what might be wrong.

I thought he was saying his burrowing ability was based off the carrion swarm ability, which I found strange. There is one possibility : if you changed the chain order of your burrowing ability to an attack ability's one, then the computer might burrow it's units as soon as your units come within range in an attempt to cast an attack ability. Are you using the normal burrowing ability or did you create a custom one ?

It could also just be a bug. Patch 1.15 screwed with morphs.

I copy-pasted the original burrow ability, modified the unit forms, modified the unit's dependency equivalents.

I get the feeling that it's part of the AI. I'll do some tests and post if i discover anything useful.

Sorry if i was a little unclear about what I was asking about at first, posted that at 3 in the morning here :)

Or there could be a flaw in your triggers for the 2 effects aforementioned. Unless the triggers arent in place yet.

My advice is to start a clean map and get burrow to work without any AI or triggers present.

I have the same problem. The issue is with the computer AI. If you take a unit designed to burrow. Let the computer control it. Send it a command to burrow. The computer will unburrow it right after the command. How do I stop the AI from unburrowing units until a certain player brings his units near?

I found a way to do it using pause/unpause but I was told this is a bad solution because of memory leaks.

Hmm seeing no one really does have an answer maybe Blizzard will fix it in the next patch :D

BTW does anyone know how to contact them? That way we could tell them to fix that

SOrry my post isn't much help, lol.

Could probably email them or go into the tech support channel on UsWest.

And has disabling unit guard posistions or any other AI stuff helped at all, th15?

EDIT: What about using another morph ability, and giving the "burrowed" form of that unit permanent invisibility, and turning off attacks and movement?
