Evening, folks! I'm making a campaign, and it is my first. I find myself having a lot of issues, and I hope some of you folks can help. I'll start out by laying out the beginning of the campaign's plot. The timeline is set some time between Beyond the Dark Portal and Reign of Chaos. The player takes on the role of a human crew, whose ship (the ) was torn asunder while in persuit of an orc Juggernaut during a grave storm. The ship 'landed' by the shores of an island unknown to the folk of Azeroth, somewhere southwest of Westfall. It begins on those shores, in the company of a healer (Lord Tithian), the captain of the ship's soldiers, a few footmen, and a handful of sailors. Nearly all the others died in the wreck, including the ship's Captain. I don't want the campaign to be like every other Warcraft quest, so I'm starting it off with rather mundane but interesting quests (instead of immediately setting up a Hall, some Farms, a Barracks, etc). The first quest is to seek out any remaining survivors, which will be found on nearby beaches, and in the forest (this includes sailors and soldiers). The quest following it is to search the wreckage (crates) to see if there is anything to be salvaged. Then some of the wreckage will be taken to a hill, anda great beacon fire will be made, so rescuers may see it. Some of it will be used to build a camp (tents, not farms). Then food will be needed, so you'll be asked to hunt wildlife. I have many ideas about how to accomplish these things, and I realize they are not very in sync with the norm of WC3 gameplay, but that is of course, why I am doing it. ;) I haven't developed the storyboard too much more, but there will be 'natives' on the island, and 'pirates' - so there will be plenty of action. On to the terrain - I haven't spent too much time on this, as most of it has been spent learning the program. NOTE: More than a traditional campaign, this one will take place for the most part, on this one map. The map is huge! - and only about 1/5 of it has been filled out. I created the map so huge with the intent to focus on one small area at a time. I know that the forests really need to thinned out (they're mainly placeholders). You can probably tell that most of my time has been spent on the rivers & lakes. I've often gotten pre-occupied with getting too far ahead of myself - into triggers, units, etc - I'm trying to start from the ground up. Hammer out a beautiful island, then onto the units, then triggers, etc. Any advice on any of this would be appreciated, especially on the terrain - if not on what I've done, then on what I can fill the rest of the map out with (without having it look too much like any old Warcraft singleplayer map). This of course being my first one, I'm already getting about 6,000 errors on it when I save it. The triggers I do play with don't end up working (get disabled). I've been through these forums enough to know that there's a nice tutorial for that in the respective board, with examples - but I suppose I'll get there when I get there. I hope I'm not forgetting anything. Either way, dissect away! |

I just picked up Frozen Throne - going to see if I can't add some new things before I go any further (which of course is the purpose of this thread). Thanks in advance for your feedback guys! |
