I'm trying to skin 2 new models (a peacock and a new wall) both of which I made the models for (using OpenFX--a great and free program), but I don't know how to skin them. I've read something on the internet and found 2 programs, crossroads & UVMapper (both of which are free), which are supposed to allow you to skin the stuff. I'm going to try it out and try and apply them to a map, but is there any other way to do it or any tutorial on the steps to take, so that I don't miss anything. Just wondering, because there are quite a lot of good models and skins on this website. This would help me alot. BTW, do any of you know of a tutorial for animating the models that you make (or at least explain to me how to do it). |

Seriously, None of you guys know how to help? This is the Modeling thread, so I thought that there would be modelers here capable of helping. All I need is a post with a link (or more) to a tutorial explaining to me what to do. BTW, I have searched Google, but I couldn't find anything that helped for WC3 model creation. I'm sure that you guys skin the models you've created, and animated them, so could you help me. Well, I'll try finding more tutorials and experimenting on my own. Maybe I'll figure out, but still a post with a link or more would REALLY REALLY Help!! |

Perhaps "OpenFX" is a nice programm but most people here use max, gmax or milkshape. You find tutorials in the tutorial section (most of them are in the old section). I hope that will help you! http://www.wc3campaigns.com/forumdisplay.php?f=425 |

Well, I'll try them, and also experiment a bit. Anyway, you should try OpenFX, its quite good and you can do stuff like this. And, it's free. I hope that I get it working. If so, I'll explain what I did, and then I'll ask a mod to close the thread. |

eh well bro, here is the thing, they are ALL free (dont qoute me on that...) and to make war3 models, 3dsmax5 or milkshape are about the only way you are going to be able to find tutorials on, and i would seriously suggest max, cause ive been using max for about 6 months, and im STILL a bit foggy on almost everything. btw, max has its own tutorials to, you may find them VERY helpfull if u *get* it somehow. if ur getting ready to skin, you do need to make a uvwmap, there is a nice tutorial on that in max, its about midway through, you uvwmap a spaceship, its good enough to learn on, then ur going to need to animate, and there is an excelent tutorial somewhere in these forums on how to do that, if u cant find it, ill look for u, it involves a snowman. anyway after that u gotta figure out wtf ur doing with the bliz art tools, then u all set. only thing that i would suggest seriously is GET MAX, however u wish, but overnet works great for me.... oh yea, and photoshop 7 is a nice thing to have to.... just make sure u collapse layers b4 u use a pic, photoshop has a nice way of makeing pictures into HUGE filesizes, something not nice for ur maps.... |

Well, when I get back to my home in the US maybe I'll "get" 3dsMax and stuff, especially since my comp over there is quite good, while the one I have here is really bad. It's so old, I can't even have WC3 installed in it, or else it'll **** up. That's why I HAVEN'T PLAYED VIDEOGAMES FOR 6 MONTHS! I'll be experimenting some with OpenFX though. Maybe I'll figure out how to do all the stuff in OpenFX, and won't need 3dsmax. BTW, I'm a good skinner. Just tell me what you want for those skins for the space mod, when you want them, and how many you want and I'll decide if I can help you. |

Sorry, I'm a bit too busy now to skin and stuff. I'm in another group and I'm the main person that models and skins there, so I've got a lot of work and pressure there. Besides, I can't skin those unless I have the models, or you send me the skin layout (which can be found by running those things through crossroads and then through UVMapper). But, hey, GL! |
