Samurai

Ok, where to start. I am planning an rpg type campaign set in a world based on mythological Japan. I have got the models figured out except for the most important one, the main character. I want to stay as true to medieval Japan as possible so I need a decent samurai skin/model/whatever. The one from Ninja vs Samurai looks about right so if anyone knows where to get it then I would like to know. If its impossible to get or if no-one knows how, then any other samurai model will do as long as it looks authentic. Thanks for your time.

Of course, if any modellers out there are generous enough to make a samurai model and put it up for public download on this thread then I would appreciate it and put them at the top of the credits. Seeing as there are a few people seeking samurai models it would be of benefit to the map making community. I don't expect anyone to make a complex, amazing model. I'm thinking something along the lines of a blademaster with Arthas' head and reskinned to have black hair and asian skin tone.

check out the model section under the download section... they made a model of mitsurugi from soul calibur II it's the closest thing so far

Cant find anything like a samurai in the downloads. I've never seen Soul Caliber so I don't really know what to look for.

Found it! It's perfect! Now, to bring forward another topic, monsters. I have already organised the models for most of the more well known monsters, all of which are from Japanese myth.
These include:
Kappa (Small aquatic being),
Oni (Brutish demon),
Tengu (A half bird, half human creature),
Yuuei (Ghost),
Gaki (Evil Ghosts),
Baku (Helpful ghosts that prevent nightmares),
Raiju (Lightning spirit) and
Spider-Goblins.

A few creatures that I need to find models for;
Nukekubi (Evil spirits that appear human but at night their heads detach and fly around),
Rokurokubi (Like the Nukekubi but their heads dont detach, instead their necks extend to great lengths)
Hitotsume (A cyclops)
Somehito (A shark-man)

Anyone have any model suggestions?

For the Hitosume, you could get someone to do some vertex editing and animation editing on the single-headed Ogre

The single headed ogre seemed an ideal solution but I will need to make it seem more human. Kitsune is something I missed when I was searching through my various sources on Asian mythology, I do know of them and will be putting them in the game. The list I have posted here is just a rough draft, I plan on forming a full list some time. I will also be including some Chinese mythological creatures for a bit of variety, mostly just ghouls and vampires. And of course there will be those famous creatures of eastern myth, DRAGONS!

hey there Jlomt, i could use a samurai model too. i am also planning to make a map of like midevil japan. we could team up if u like and share ideas. if ur interested of coarse. anyway, i was just wondering where u found the samurai model and if u would be kind enough to let me see it or tell me where i could attain such a model. ty in advance

I found the samurai model by searching for 'mitsurugi' in the forum search bar. There's a thread there that you can dl it from. Its the one from Ninja vs Samurai. I am open to an exchange of ideas if you want to but I'm gonna work on this campaign alone. This is a basic prologue of what happens. It is set in a world that I need to think up a name for.
A samurai warrior named Hiroshi Nakamura is a loyal soldier in one of the armies of the Daimyo Yukio Katsura. His shogun, Akira Romiji, is a powerful leader and was Hiroshi's mentor. At the time when Hiroshi is in the army, Daimyo Katsura is at war with another Daimyo. Through some unfortunate turn of battle (Still to think up details), Shogun Romiji is killed and his army all but destroyed. After a fierce fight, the troops of the enemy Daimyo are repelled. Without a shogun, Hisroshi becomes a ronin and leaves the army. He discards many of his belongings and begins to travel the world, seeking a purpose to his life. He takes on the shinko name 'Black Dragon'. Years later, the campaign begins.

Ok, that's the bare bones of the prologue but it will be edited and filled out. Also, I would like it if anyone could tell me where I might get some models that could pass as basic foot troops. It would also be useful for me if I could get some Japanese villager models.

Hmmm... For the way in which the opposing army defeats the other one, it could be they do something dishounerable, like capturing a dragon and using it to kill the enemy

And for the Hitosume, by editing the vertexes and skin of the Ogre you should have a pretty good looking model

Good idea. I could have the enemy do something really against bushido. As for the ogre, unfortuneatly I have neither the software nor the patience to do modelling or skinning. I will have to request it sometime.
