Greetings Terrainers, I don't know if you know me, but I figured its best to introduce myself anyway. I am JCarrill0, a fellow War3 Player (ROC & TFT) and interested in making maps. I am familiar with map skillz from world edit from War2 and the Starcraft Campaign Editor (StarEdit) so I am familiar with making maps, but War3 map editing is far more advanced. Anyway I am wondering if some people help me learn about map making. Well, to start I figure the first thing to do, is Learn about the tools I will be using. I have had War3 since Sep 22 first day release of War3 battlechest. I been playing with the editor here and there for a while now, made a few altered melee cheesy maps, but it's all apart of my learning. Second thing is to Start Learning. I figured the first thing to learn here is Terraining, well guess what Im here asking for help LOL. I know its been along time to play around with the editor, and most probably got the hang of it with in 3 months well I been busy so i play here and there (some of us have to have lives, I work most of mine) My project for learning Terraining is one hard project I see. I wanna make a Melee map using Only WE. Over the years, I have seen most better editor besides the standard editors (war2's pudedit, SC's SCXE, War3's UMSWE) I kinda like to stay with what Blizzard Gave me when I am training. I have neglected to use UMSWE as of yet, but I did DL it with my 56k LOL (still need to get the update for 1.15) SO here is what I wanna do: I want to make a 6 player map with a terrain having 3 different sets: Lordaeron Summer, fall, and Winter. I think this will be hard, but I have seen many maps that have different areas. World Of Warctraft-TFT.w3x for example has almost everything. I was hoping to have the look of it at least, I know mixing Terrain is pretty hard since It can't be done (or can it?) but making the area look like it works for me. I notice winter is a lot harder then summer and fall sinew fall and summer have almost identical terrain, so If I cant do winter I wanna make a 4 player map of a 50% summer 50% fall. I plan to have the tree Doodads for each to have a different look, even in the area, I plan to have Merc Camps of each set to identify kinda where you are (Perhaps a Red dragon roost on the summer set, black dragons in the fall set too), anyway I really don't know anything about terraining so that's my main problem. Plan to name the Map Lordaeron. I still don't know what terrain to start off with I was thinking Lordaeron Summer, but then again that why I am posting. TO get some advice and some help. IF you would like to understand a little better incase you don't understand me, There is a map on warcraftiii.net that has similar to what I want, half the map is a grassy and the other half is all dirt with orange trees. seems like a cool map, But I want my own idea, my own set. Can you Terrainers help me? |

Yes it can be done, I usually read and not post ,but in WE go to advanced and then click on 'Modify Tilset'. Once there click the check box allowing custom terrain, then just pick your tileset (in this case Fall i guess) and add or remove tiles for your terrain. :8 :8 |

A very important thing to remember when you are terraining: DOODADS ARE YOUR FRIENDS. Without them, your terrain will suck. Just look at some of the TD's on bnet for examples of crap terrain without doodads. For more terrain tips, go here: http://www.wc3campaigns.com/showthread.php?t=51765 |
