Ok I made a cold blizzardy scene and I'm wondering if it is any good. I figured I'd make a map based more on eye-candy than anything else.

I've never been told how good my terraining is so what do you think?

looks good but ends rather abruptly, nothing in the background to see. also a few of your rocks are floeaing, and you could probably do with a few more trees, and the lorderon winter grass tile underneath them, snow cant fall through trees. make those cie crystals smaller, and add some variation, i know in the buffs and abilities section there are more transparent looking ice crytsals (not the ones that form, then dissapear) that may looks good. but the scan lacks foucus. it need something to draw the veiwer eye to pic, be it at the center, or placed in the forground side

Also try to scale up the trees and ad some units, bears, for example, also you could try to make a custom doodad using any of the Human, Orc etc Backdrop models (Found in game interface). Change their scale to 0.30 and they make an awesome sky effect.
Add some more doodads too, and make a "Place of Interest", a place were your eyes fall first, i.e. a cave or something.

Thanks for your input guys.

About the whole making a centrepiece/place of interest thing, it would look a lot better with something like that but remember this is kinda going to be the 'style' of a whole map, and not everywhere can have a centerpiece (I would run out of ideas on a hundred different interesting things X.x). Seeing as this is the main starting point of the map, I'll think about putting one in, a cave sounds like a logical idea.

Oh I've also stuck mountains in places, and added some new bits. Maybe I'll get some more screenshots, but I'm working on the gameplay, so I might be posting this in maps in developement in the same thread as my other map there.

Anyways thanks again. I love terraining ^^

Thought I should just put a little update in. I took a shot from a different angle now with some mountains in the background. I made the fog a little less dense 'cause the mountains were shrouded in whiteness X.x

Oh and I put that cave in there. Does it look any better now?

if ur trying to make mountains it looks more like a mountain top rather than the actual mountain and the tree's don't go very good with all the snow n cliffs in there WAHOO my 100th post!

Much beter, the wildlife leads the eye to the background nicely. however, you terrain is currently inbetween 2 alternatives. cold terrain can either be full of snow trees, and animals, very crowded. or it can be a barren wastedland, with a few well positioned spikes of rock

It looks much better. Not quite so plain now. Although the right side seems to have more things in it than the left side. To make the area seem more bumpy you can use the noise button.

snow cant fall through trees

No it can't but it does not take more than small wind and the snow is all over the region. Just had a winter with pretty much snow and it does get under the trees as well as anywhere. Also doing a map with winter setup, I was wondering if it's wise to make buildings like "Dragon Warrior NES" style, only walls and leave the roof away. This makes that you can enter buildings, but letäs the snow fall in... It does not usually rain in though ^_^

Pretty pics, btw.
