RPG Map Suggestions and feedback

I'm currently in the process of making my 1st RPG map. My map uses spellbooks to allow for lots of spells but in the introduction/starter level I'd like people to be able to choose 5 spells that they can level up. Now my questions are:

1. What do you think is the best combination of 5 spells? (eg 1 splash damage, 2 standard attacking, 1 aura and 1 ultimate)

2. Do you think the spellbooks should be given at the beginning of the map, or should people have to pay/work for them?

3. Should I make the spellbooks upgradable? (eg, for a certain price or by completing a certain quest, players spellbook upgrades for higher level spells)

Thanks for the help, any other suggestions are welcome too! :D
Cheers,

1. It depends. I've always been fond of melee heroes with one ultimate and the rest passive abilities, including at least 1 aura. The problem with those kind of heroes is that they get boring really fast.

But for melee type hero: 1 ultimate, 2 passive (ie, thorn aura, critical strike) and 2 standard attack abilities.
Mage type hero: 1 ultimate, 1 aura, the rest either 1 targets or many targets abilities.

2 and 3. IMO the player should do a quest to get the spellbook. The difficulty level would be a bit too low if you get all the spells in the beginning. And if you do so, the player doesn't have much to look forward to, except the story and the quests. Also, if they are upgradable, it too gives something to look forward to. So by making the player work for the spells and upgrades, it keeps the interest fueled, preventing it from dying.

1) Not more than 2 passive abilities.
For warrior-type heroes, an attacking spell and a defensive spell work good with an aura and a passive.
For mage-type heros you could have no passives cause they will have mana to burn. The type of spells they have ususally depends on the type of mage {offensive, defensive, support, etc}
