I have been creating terrain for some sort of adventure-rpg and I'd like few comments how things would be done for the best result... Let's take in example fights; should I change the style of battles? How many have played maps where battles were fought out in some else way (ie.turn-based) and what you think were the best/worst sides of the system? And how does it work on LAN or other multiplayer? And when moving around in the world, what you think of 3rd person views? It is certain I do something with basic game camera (does not suite adventure in my opinion). Are the chat messages best way to interact with people ("talk", "look", "ask") and terrain? And overall if you have any general hints (I think this one evolves as long as it is in my hands ^_^ ) so send some ideas/links/scripts if you have some... I now continue my search for the ideas myself over the net, but just though if someone could spare few moments and leave some hints here I would appreciate it. |

Okay, I decided to go the "Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption" (which sucks, btw) -look with the camera, following the movements and facing angle of the character. And as for the interact with surrounding world I decided to use Dialog buttons due to their simple use in the game. Doors are opened as you approach them unless they are locked. The tileset on the first piece of the map is Icecrown Glacier with those incredibly dramatic blizzards :> And becuase I live in north it felt familiar. I'm going to make many "new" hero classes and perhaps some custom abilities. There is already a character selection screen from where you choose the race and character class (ie. Human Paladin, Dwarf Defender). Is it possible to make some osrt of "input" screen where you enter desired name which is added as the name of your character? Haven't really looked into this matter very deeply for my whole night was spent doing dialogies for people in town. There are town guards who guide you and some angry dwarves who don't give a [CENSORED] about you or your thoughts. Taking influences from the basics of the Warcraft (after all, this is going to be set perhaps in the Warcraft world) and including some basic fantasy stuff (not to forget Terry Pratchett -> Troll as doorman at local tavern). None of these are really new features, but I am planning to do it as well as I can to make sure that game will be easy to play and enjoyable. Not only hack n' slash. Perhaps even going to make a "reputation" hero has in each village, so if you assassinate the local mayor it would be better not to show your face around there for a while (this secures that you still have a face in the game later on). This is where I could use some help (also), how to move character with his abilities and items from one map to another, does it require "Game Cache" triggers and how do they work in multiplayer? For I am planning to expand the realm with new locations. If you have some good tutorials on this, please link me or tell where I could find such. That Dialog tutorial helped a lot, though I did some things differently it really helped to get a hang on the basics of the system. Quess this mail is useless, but I'm pretty anxious on this one. I'll try to get some screenshots for you 7 people who readed (or at least looked at :> ) this mail. |
