I'm almost done with my Resident Evil map, and I'm looking for any suggestions for what you think would make it more interesting. I might add that it's nothing like NOLD or other maps like it; there is storyline loosely based on an amalgation of the RE series, and a more dynamic enviornment than just stand and fire. The setting begins at STARS HQ where after choosing your agent (hero) a helicopter takes the team to a forest near Raccoon City. From there you must make your way to the city, and then infiltrate Umbrella and discover the source of the T-Virus. Suggestions I'm looking for include items, side quests, or anything else you might think of that would make sense being in the RE enviornment. For example, one item, the Firebomb, is tied to triggers so that when you use it a bomber flies near the manipulating hero and drops the bomb. It creates a fire effect on units within 1000 range and deals different amounts of AOE damage in a radius. I have about 8 other items w/ triggers tied in, but am running outta 'good' ideas. Post 'em here, and I'll appreciate it. |

I've got some nice Ideas for this one. I'll list them by number. 1: As a cinematic (Probably near the beginning) you could have the zombies (Preferably ghouls) eating a corpse on the ground. The main heroes show up, gasp in disbelief, fight the zombies, and try to go on their merry little way until the body that everyone was eating on springs to life when the hero gets close and starts attacking him! 2: As a Side quest (or cinematic, wait 'till bottom for this part) I would suggest one involving a frantic man with a gun who has barracaded himself into a make-shift fort. Normally you wouldn't care, but in his little shack is the one key you've been looking for for the last 20 minutes! The guy won't let you in until you go back and get something for him (Like antibiotics for his wife who was bitten or something). After you get the key (Or before if you just wanna use this as a cinematic) have some big, giant spider or something break in, kill the guy, and try to fight your hero. 3: These are "idiot items", but Herb, F. Aid Spray, Item box, and the most God Damned wierd keys you could ever dream of are all necessary to the feeling of the game. As a suggestion for one of the keys, I would use the Fire, Ice, Lightning, and Dark Orbs (Soul Gem) and I would hide them in 4 different places, and make you find the correct order to put all four them into the major door before some huge boss fight near the end of the game or something. 4: As another Side Quest, you could have your main hero incapacitated in some manor (infected, shot, poisened, etc) and play as another character to find some medical help for him (Oh wait, I didn't think of this, it's in EVERY RE GAME lol :sweatdrop ) 5: Puzzles are a must! Have plenty of secrets too (like units disguised as trees that you can destroy to reveal a secret path). 6: A ranking system is needed as well. You could give an A rank for beating the game under a certian time limit, completing all side-quests, and not using any F. Aid Sprays. 7: A Tyrant. There is just no damn way that you can have a Resident Evil Game without a Tyrant of some kind. And to really mess with people, have the Tyrant start as an Ogre, get f#cked up in battle, and then mutate into an Abomination. 8: Multiple NPCs that die minutes after you meet them. That's just a given, and if you don't already have that then you're doing something wrong !9: For the weapon items, try to include all you can out of Magnum, Shotgun, Crossbow, Grenade Launcher, Knife (Ok, you can leave this one out lol), and Rocket Launcher. Damn.... With all of these ideas I should definatly make it into the credits or something! PS: Don't forget to download Insaniteus Cinematics. Check my thread for link and details. So far the lowest ratting I've gotten is 9/10, and the highest was 100/10 (No joke!) -The Great and Immortal Lord Imperialist Insaniteus- --------------------(Classic Line by Leon after having Ada walk off on him an Claire completely ignore him over the walkie talkie), "Hello? HELLO? Man why doesn't anyone ever listen to me??" |

Thanks for the input :) 1) Actually I did exactly that, with the ghoul (lurker) cannibalizing the corpse after the Heroes get off the 'copter. Seems we think alike. 2) There is a group of citizens who escaped from the city /w a key to Umbrella, but they give it to you voluntarily. I might change that now though, I like confrontation. :) 3) Ah, forgot about F. Aid Spray. The only keys I have atm are the same one, but you need 3 of em to get into Umbrella. I'll look at adding more since RE always used a TON of em. 4) Once again, we think alike. At one stage of the game a random unit from the 'Agent's will become paralyzed after being poisoned by a boss. During this time the others have to split up, a few stay to guard him against an onslaught of enemies while the others have to get him a blue herb before the timer runs out or he dies from the poison. It only works if more than 3 of the heroes are alive (1 player can control more than 1 hero). 5) Ah yes, that reminds me that I should add in some. The only puzzle I have atm (which is weak) is at the beginning. The players are prompted to type in the password to gain access to a small weapons depot, and the hint is the game creators name (mine lol). I'll think up some interesting extras in this respect. It'll encourage people to host the map again so they can seem smart since they already know the puzzle answer ^^ 6) Ok, my ending is kinda weak atm. My RPG had something along these lines, where you'd get a secret ending depending on diff. level that you win on. 7) Yep, already have a Tyrant-esque guy in it. Although he doesn't make quite as many appearances as I'd like him to. I forgot about the mutating part, I could try to work that in. 8) Haha yeh, I got plenty of that. Including an innocent friend who aids you up until a certain point. Where you can guess what happens. :) 9) Got shotgun. It isn't as noticeable as I'd like, but it still works well. When heroes hit lvl 10 they get a special ability they can type to activate. Rocket launcher is the weapons specialist's one. As for magnum, I'd love to add that one in. Can you think of a way of making it unique? For example, my shotgun can only be equipped by a couple characters. When it's used it will last until ammo runs out, but has a trigger attached making it do an additional 350 damage to a unit. If I added magnum I'd like to make it somewhat different. Sure, ill check it out. Thanks for suggestions again. |

i dont know if this is too late but make the whole game dependent on weird and frustuating camera angles anrd real dark! have lots of doodads that appear to have a lot of detail but are nothing more than eye candy, and let the charachter touch stuff and say stupid comments like boy this room is real dusty |

I have quite a few camera angles in it, but they aren't too annoying. Of course you can just scroll out of them anyhow. Mine isn't based in a mansion, although I might do that if this one is received well. It starts off at the STARS HQ where you take a helicopter over a small river to a remote spot in the nearby woods. From there you travel through the woods, a shallow river, Raccoon City, and then Umbrella (which is the downstairs of the mansion if I recall). It'll be finished by Friday I estimate unless it's too buggy in multiplayer. I'll post it in the retail forum. |

Make the Shotgun do AoE damage, and make the magnum do a shitload of damage to a single target. And I can't believe that I forgot about the cameras, but yeah you just have to do that, and I don't care how hard it is lol. To stop people from scrolling out, you can have a periodic trigger (every .01 seconds apply Camera Variable) and within the map, just set the variable whenever it needs to be changed! -Insaniteus- -----------------------If you need any MP3s from Resident Evil I have a bunch. My MP3 collection currently is 1300 total songs! |

Currently I'm using the theme from the RE movie, which I think is pretty good. I'm gonna limit the map to just that one though, because I don't want the size to turn off people on Bnet like my RPG did (it was 2.4mb). |

I'd try using the built-in game music, some of the undead tunes might work. Most music is just too big :P If only war3 supported midi.... |

Well its basically finished now. I may post it tommorrow, it worked almost 100% flawlessly in multi earlier. As for the music, I have one MP3 from the RE movie that comprimises a good bit of the size, but the rest is built-in. Overall size is 900kb~. I added in the Magnum and Shotgun, useable by specific classes, as well as 4 other class specific items. Overall I have about 12 items driven by triggers, my favorite of which is the Firebomb which I'll let you see for yourself. I updated some of the level 10 special abilities so the Weapons Specialist can use the rocket launcher as special now. I'm not sure how to force a player to use the trigger set camera angles, unless they don't know how to scroll out of it. I added 4 puzzles, pretty simplistic ones overall, but you'd be surprised how confused people become when actual thought is required to complete the game. =) One player can still control all 6 heroes, depending on how many are in the game. Cinematics work well in MP, although some may find them more of a burden if they like no storyline. I may add the option to disable storyline but I dunno. All thats really left is to update some enemy unit statistics because heroes are slightly overpowered atm. Any last minute thoughts/suggestions? |

I already told you how to disable scrolling. You make a Camera Variable, named Camera. Then you set up a periodic trigger Event - every .01 second Actions - Apply Camera This will make it so the camera won't move even a centameter, no matter how hard the player tries. The fun part for you will be adding "Set Camera = current camera" to every single camera change trigger to make it all work :sweatdrop . It will be worth it though, trust me! Also, don't bother making a way to skip story, since RE fans play the game FOR the story (duh). Also, if you can, make as many puzzles as possible have random answers, so even the game host will need to guess (And not just give everyone the answer to speed things up). All in all this mod is sounding like it will rock. I plan on getting it once you post it up. Also, if you want you can check out my thread about my newest project. -The Great and Immortal Lord Imperialist Insaniteus- ----------------------"I love the dead...frequently" -Necromancer |

Quote:
That trigger looks a lil laggy, what blizzard did in warchasers was apply the cammera over a 1 second period, and have it execute that one time a second. that seemed to work fairly well, since you cant move the camera around while its being set to something. |

This sounds quite a bit like another RE map I played... getting out of the gyrocopter and finding the ghoul eating a corpse, Umbrella keys, the infected person needing a blue herb and you splitting up, and the level ten specials. It was pretty cool, good luck on yours. So, I guess you aren't planning on reskinning anything? That would be pretty cool, to have the character skins. Speaking of which, which characters are in it? |

I was planning on doing a RE map after getting tired of seeing those NOTLD maps on Bnet, but it seems you're making one just how I woulda done it. Guess I'll scrap my idea, and I hope to see the your map soon. |

Holy jesus. This is an old thread, lol. The map you are referring to is the same map I made (Gravano's Resident Evil) - I finished that in October of last year. Last map I finished was SoU: The Dark Phoenix in January, and I haven't really been working on anything since. I do plan to make a campaign once TFT comes out. EDIT: Oh and by the way, you can find those at maps.warcraftiii.net if you type Gravano into the search engine. |
