Heh. We should just make as many different terrains as concievable and then post the map in the essential's sticky. Then people can use those as a basic layout and then whenever they need to change stuff they can just fix it around a bit. It can be like a template or default terrain. Then if they need something custom done they can recruit one of us. :D Heck we could put this in the challenge section and then we can vote on which map we like best and that will be the one posted for all to see. Or maybe Beam can use this for weekly terraining challenge since it wouldn't be that hard to come up with like a farming village, forest, etc. |

Way to many projects have died for this very reason. The creator cans it because hes to lazy to Terrain/Skin himself. Projects won't create themselves you know! |

I might help although I am not sure if I am the best at it. What do you need exactly in the map and where? Also how big will the map be and what kind of map is it? |

dont have a go at anyone for a terrain request. people make model skin and trigger requests all the time. its not unreasonable to ask for terrain, its not something you get good at overnight. if anything this is an indication we should have a terrain request forum, or at least a stickied thread |

ok, well Im thinking it's going to be called pig farmer :D . What you do is each player starts off raising little pigs and selling/cooking then for food and money. As you get more money you can get more pigs and machinary that makes the cooking and other proscess faster. Eventually you'll have enough money to start a shop and get more things to sell. I havent thought up a winning condition yet but maybe first one to 10,000 gold or somthing. what I need is probally a medium sized village with houses, farms, shops, town center area, housing area, farming area, a little bit of water for the dock and things like that. There will be NPCs that buy things from you and the other players will have to buy stuff from you too. That's about the basic concept, I made somthing like this in VB but it was just point and click. I've made a few maps in WC3, Ice Blood and Real Life J(check my sig), so I know what Im doing. |

I wasn't having a go at him! i was only trying to point out that a map does not have to have mind blowing terrain to be good. I'm sorry if i sounded like i was having a go at him. As for a request thread, I think thats a good suggestion. |

Would it be ok if they were all split up into like sections/villages? Like each village would be exactly the same and they are split up into island and they cross bridges to get to each other. There farm is at the bottom of each island and the store that they sell their pigs and things is at the top. Then a village is in the middle with NPCs. Or something else like they are all scattered about with the main village in the middle and the shop guy in the center of the village? How many players is it too? Do you want any specific tileset or is village fall or village ok? Yea a good map doesn't need super good terrain because most players on bnet don't even care about the terrain and just pass over it like its nothing. Too many doodads and useless things in a map also lag it a bit. I think that models and skins might be more important because you use those units most of the time and look at what they look at. You don't really take the time to look at a nice sceane since most games you have to be fast and you don't want to waste time. Although cinematics on the other hand there are tons of terraining involved. Heh. I have edited this post at least 3 times. |
