How does my Dryad look?

This would be my first attempt at proper skinning (Warden Barbie was to be honest a recolor with some runes drawn on) and so I'd like some comments on it if you will.

I started off on adding some armour to the Dryad, and changed the hair and spear when the leaf pattern didn't fit well with the armour I ended up with. The neck thing and arm tattoos were added to break up some of the large skin areas.

Any suggestions on how to improve this? This is really just an exercise in self-improvement, but if it ends up of interest to someone at some stage.....

I think the armor doesn't look metallic enough. Maybe give it a more shining and polished look (there is a tutorial on how to do it somewhere in the skinning section). But it's still better than what I can do.

i think you need to sharpen the edges of the armor. give it more contrast. it looks like the armor is part of the dryad's skin.

U made my day. NO one skins that model. Is such an awesome model 2. Well its a lill 2 blurry. The armor dosent looklike its on the skin because heres no shadows undeer it. The thing that kill s it is team color. Delete some of it, redo some of it. Maybe give her a partial helm. Why is her hair blue. Byrads dont have blue hair. Get rid of the green necklace. There is just too much color going on. The metal needs to be shinnyer.

Nice to know I made someone's day with this. :>

Aynway, here's version two. I brightened up the armor as you all suggested, ditched the necklace and removed the team color from the hair. Any better or worse, and by how much?

well.. egg pretty much said what i wanted to say so... just make shadows on the edges of the armor, on the skin. that'll make it look more like its an armor, and not part of the flesh. go to the skinning technique factory in the skinning section, there are great tuts about how to do metal there... trick is to play a lot with dodge and burn ^ ^...

oh and it would be neat if you changed the face a little, the portrait is a verry important part of a skin.

EDIT:oops... posted at the same time ^ ^, it looks a little better, but the breast (not the armor part of it, but the flesh) look a bit overdodged.

the shape of the armor on the back and stufff is a bit iffy... could you post the unwrap? it seems like it needs to follow the shapes of the skin more, it looks... yeah well, not quite realistic as armor.

the chest looks fine though.

Her breast are glowing holy crap. try to tone it down to the origional color. Id like to see an in game shot. From what i can see the model raps like a used condom.

Here's some in-game shots with the breast glow toned down, and the unwrap. Does anyone know how what that smaller dryad face on the skin is for?

Also, I found a small problem: the portrait hasn't changed. How can I fix this? Is there a thread on it somewhere?

That little face is probably nothing. Like i suspected looks awesome in game. Tru doing armor on the lower legs. Maybe a metal ring around the leg with chainmail hanging.
Ya u have to do something interesting witht he head. Thats where ull see most detail.
Maybe a half hem. Like A little armor at the top of her face and covers part of he hair.
Also change the head of the spear. She has modern armor, she needs a modern weapon.

Here we are with a helm, chainmail on the legs and lower body, and a changed spear head.

The helm certainly looks better than the bare head, but it's a bit plain.... any suggestions on decoration?

This will be the last change for a few hours, I have to get lunch and go outside for a bit. ;)

aaaah yes... eccellent! ^^ looks verry nice, but just burn and dodge the helmet some more... the helmet and the new weapon looks greatish.

go to that skinning technique factory, and see how you can burn/dodge the helmet into perfection ^^!

it looks verry cool now.

Right-o, a bit more burning on the helm and now I'll stop lest I overdo things. Thanks for the input everyone. :D

I have nothing to do with this.... should I put it up in the Downloads area?

In TFT, the portrait for the dryad uses the skin path "Textures\Dryad.blp" where as the in-game model uses the "Units\NightElf\Dryad\Dryad.blp"

As far as I can tell the two skins are exactly the same...so all you would have to do is import the skin twice into a map and set the paths to the ones above. That should get the dryad portrait to show your skin.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks beepo, that worked perfectly. Seems a strange way to do things as far as storage in MPQ goes though. Meh, it puzzles me. o_O

Anyway, I'm done with this now. On to the next.
