well i cant really understand Arcuives tutorial in this part. can someone please explain this part as easy as its possible (please dont tell me that Arcuives tutorial is the easiest way) |

its simple. to change a model- export it and bring it into max with KMK's script. Move the verticies around to where you want them. Dont delete any. export it as a MDX. But save a copy of the original. Use war3 file converter to change the new and the original MDX's to MDL's. Open them both with notepad. Copy all of the verticy positions and the normals from the MDL of the custom model to the MDL of the original file. Do the geosets one at a time though and do not delete or change the stuff in between. Convert the original MDL with updated vert positions back to an MDX and import. it is not hard. |

I have understand parts of this...However when i have copied the first Vert set, Then how can i locate the next? and are you supposed to copy normals too? |
| 10-24-2002, 04:31 PM | #4 |
i think you should copy the normals, however it will work if you dont as long as drastic changes were not made. you overwrite this part. Geoset { Vertices 33 { { -9.03121, -13.0825, -2.19203 }, { 4.32399e-006, -13.2697, 2.1657 }, { -8.17923, -13.0825, 3.81906 }, { -9.03121, -13.0825, -2.19203 }, { -15.5631, -8.01513, 2.17967 }, { -5.6233, 12.0341, -2.19203 }, { -8.17924, 10.7122, -1.36687 }, { -5.6233, 12.0341, 0.267048 }, { -1.77557e-006, 13.2697, 0.253077 }, { -2.83477e-006, 13.2697, -2.20601 }, { -11.3032, -2.28677, 2.17967 }, { -11.3032, -2.28677, -2.19203 }, { -13.3606, -5.05346, -2.19203 }, { -4.42042, -12.1295, 4.73565 }, { -7.04401, -12.6271, 4.54959 }, { -0.528638, 4.74163, 2.18111 }, { 4.25097e-006, -12.7667, 5.93817 }, { 8.17924, -13.0892, 3.79111 }, { 9.03122, -13.0892, -2.21998 }, { 15.5631, -8.02186, 2.15172 }, { 5.62329, 12.0274, 0.239109 }, { 8.17923, 10.7055, -1.39481 }, { 5.62329, 12.0274, -2.21997 }, { 11.3032, -2.29351, 2.15173 }, { 13.3606, -5.06019, -2.21998 }, { 11.3032, -2.2935, -2.21997 }, { 7.04401, -12.6338, 4.52166 }, { 4.42043, -12.1363, 4.70771 }, { 2.233e-006, -13.2697, -2.20601 }, { -10.7352, 2.78062, -2.19203 }, { -15.5631, -8.01513, -2.19203 }, { 10.7352, 2.77389, -2.21998 }, { 15.5631, -8.02186, -2.21999 }, } Normals 33 { { -0.0222457, -0.999748, 0.00315361 }, { -0.000365939, -0.998999, 0.0447224 }, { -0.32724, -0.408215, 0.852217 }, { -0.295901, -0.635888, -0.712804 }, { -0.837469, -0.352458, 0.417634 }, { -0.366721, 0.471932, -0.801745 }, { -0.712476, 0.695953, -0.0895944 }, { -0.417006, 0.737809, 0.530795 }, { -0.0139404, 0.452489, 0.891661 }, { -0.00160477, 0.438775, -0.898595 }, { -0.506324, 0.401687, 0.763075 }, { -0.254546, 0.188602, -0.948491 }, { -0.56741, 0.421955, -0.707107 }, { -0.124286, -0.533457, 0.836646 }, { -0.25408, -0.19846, 0.946603 }, { -0.0125693, 0.25215, 0.967607 }, { 0.0010414, -0.581003, 0.813901 }, { 0.308054, -0.40838, 0.85926 }, { 0.256345, -0.751382, -0.60804 }, { 0.83747, -0.352458, 0.417634 }, { 0.418586, 0.737495, 0.529987 }, { 0.712476, 0.695953, -0.089595 }, { 0.364867, 0.471315, -0.802953 }, { 0.507433, 0.401687, 0.762338 }, { 0.567409, 0.421956, -0.707107 }, { 0.252961, 0.188806, -0.948875 }, { 0.258346, -0.18272, 0.948615 }, { 0.12611, -0.529601, 0.83882 }, { -0.00137296, -0.316169, -0.948702 }, { -0.103889, 0.0570819, -0.99295 }, { -0.433432, -0.558692, -0.707107 }, { 0.101244, 0.0562384, -0.993271 }, { 0.433431, -0.558692, -0.707108 }, } then you scroll down and do it for every other set that looks the same, keeping the same order and transferring from the new model the geosets that correspond to the ones in the old one. |

hmm i think something has happened when i exported from 3dsmax... heres how mine look { Vertices 405 { { 15, 0, 129 }, { 13, 5, 129 }, { 9, 5, 130 }, { 9, 0, 130 }, { 9, -4, 130 }, { 13, -4, 129 }, { 9, 5, 130 }, { -6, 0, 144 }, { -1, -5, 148 }, { -1, 6, 148 }, { -4, 6, 142 }, { -8, 4, 137 }, { 0, 8, 137 }, { 3, 8, 128 }, { 8, 8, 134 }, { 10, 5, 131 }, there should be 3 times as many on each line huh? |
| 10-24-2002, 06:03 PM | #6 |
no thats fine there are a few reasons yours is different though. Your model is a lot larger than mine, mine is too small. And i used daishi's converter which exports the verticie posititions as floating point numbers. KMK's uses integers. KMK do you think integers are accurate enough? |
| 10-24-2002, 07:38 PM | #7 |
another thing on many of these lines there are only zeros. what could that be..i think that i have selected the meshes in a wrong order in 3dsmax because when i open the 2 MDLs the matching Geosets on both MDLs are not equal in length. is there a easy wy to select em in the right order? |
| 10-24-2002, 08:32 PM | #8 |
well they could export in the wrong order. Best thing to do there is realize that the geosets that should be the same will have the same number of verticies. You dont have to count them the number is given at the beginning of each geoset. |
| 10-24-2002, 08:52 PM | #9 |
well now i KNOW i have that order is right but when i try to convert the Geos back to MDx i get an error: ERROR: Line one unexpected token (square½) |
| 10-24-2002, 09:35 PM | #10 |
yeah i get that a lot too. If you leave out anything like a bracket or something you will get an error. I thought i was doing it wrong forever until i checked the brackets. Its like trying to program and using a compiler that just says there is an error and doesnt tell you where. That is prbably your problem. Start over and be more careful. Other then that i dont know what to tell you. |
| 10-24-2002, 09:48 PM | #11 |
Problem solved, he had a few eosets and ggeosets. I don't know why they aren't real numbers though. KMK's exports as real. I think he aligned all the verticies to the grid or something. |

Yes i can import and convert everything without errors now but still when i boot up winMPQ and look at my file its only 179 but in the Folder the MDX is 180, However i have put the MDX in winMPQ but when i open WE its the same length on the BMs blade. (thats a part of what i have edited) now what?' ((( fixed ))) |
| 10-25-2002, 10:33 AM | #13 |
The file size diference is due to the prefix "KILO" means 1024, not 1000 as usual. Probably your models is not working coz you did not saved it using the same path. |
| 10-25-2002, 02:30 PM | #14 |
well now it shows in WE but not in the game... =) |
| 10-25-2002, 03:14 PM | #15 |
Does someone know what has happened now? |
