Hi I've not been fiddling with the editor long, so I have a couple of questions. Couldn't find the answers in any tutorials, so I hope this is the right place to ask. Firstly, I want to create custom abilities that combine the effects of two other abilites. For example, making a spell that heals a unit (like the human heal spell) but also reduces its defense temporarily (like faerie fire). But when I try and make a new custom ability, using heal as a template for example, I can't figure out how to add a defense reduction component to it. Is the only way to do this to set up a trigger to cast a second spell after the first, to give both effects? That seems to be a little clumsy, and it would be much better if I could somehow create a new field in the heal spell that tells the ability to reduce defense as well. Is this possible, and if so how do I do it? And secondly, I seem to have a problem of unit sounds not working properly after I have copied the unit and made some minor changes. For example, I wanted to create a rat critter with an attack, so I copied the unit, and made some alterations to the attack information. But afterwards, the unit had no sound effects when I tested it, nor could I get any to work by fiddling the sound fields. I tried again with other units, but it seems that custom units often lose there sounds when they are slightly altered, even if the alterations are not related to the sound options of the unit. Am I missing something about the way unit sounds work? Thanks - Jim |

1. You can't (as far as I know) add new fields to abilities, though you can add buffs and effects to every ability, then with some triggers make awesome spells. Though I'm not really the guy to answer that question. :( 2. Sound - Unit Sound Set = Rat that should work even if you've made changes on the unit... |

Ok thanks...I guess I'll just have to learn triggers better then :D Quote:
Thats what I thought, but it's set as that now, yet all i get when I click on the units is a clicking noise. I've fiddled with everything I can think of, and I still get nothing. On rats it doesn't matter so much, but I have a similar problem on other units :/ |

Do you make new units or do you edit exsisting units? |

Usually I just copy them and edit the new unit I've made. I don't seem to be having the problem as much as I thought though...maybe theres just something peculiar about the rat :P |

Not all sound sets have sounds. The marine sound set, for example, is completely blank. But if you're talknig about attack sounds instead, just pick one type of attack sound (metal, wood, rock) |
