Back in business :D I finally figured out that it was my power supply crapping out on me. My comp was rebooting randomly, so I figured it was a Power Failure. I ran off to the store and bought a 300 watt Antec power supply for $50. (Damn steep price, but its the best brand at least ^_^ ) ================================== God I hate to say this, but I'm gonna have to put all TTOA map work on hold for I don't know how long. My computer has been freezing up like hell lately. I can't play games anymore because they lock up several minutes into play. My comp is freezing up just in Windows, running sometimes only one simple program like Internet Explorer. I've defragged, virus scanned, deleted crap, tried a whole lot of crap. I've got 3 gb free on my 20 gb harddrive now which is more then enough, so it should be running well. I dunno if my hard drive is going bad, or something else, or what. Anyway I can still work on scripts, skins, storyline, the site and anything that doesn't involve use of the World Editor or Warcraft III itself. (Though I can use the WE for very short periods of time). Hopefully I'll figure out whats wrong soon, or I will put together a nice comp for my dad, so he can give me his P4 2.4 ghz. (He'll pay for his own comp, and give me his for like $200-300 prolly). If anyone wants to help me out with buying a good new comp, feel free to send me your suggestions, either by posting here or sending me a PM. Sorry for the unfortunate crappy circumstances, Ian |

i've told you what your dad should do :D also, you could buy a huge 50 pack (or whatever) of cd-r's, transfer all your files onto em, then format? |

Then I'd be even more screwed, cause I don't have a copy of XP. Got it installed by a tech friend of my dads who had a CD with 5 uses on it. We haven't been in contact for a really long time. My cousin has a copy he got from his school though, so maybe if I'm lucky he'll bring that down around the 4th of July. |

Definitely get XP installed since it's a whole lot more stable than Windows 98 and ME. My computer has never crashed (I've had it for over two years). As alpengeist says, I recommend backing your cruicial files asap before something worse happense. |

I have XP installed, but I don't have an XP CD. Also yeah I took alot of peoples advice, and backed up about 250 mb of TTOA files. And I've got some good news - the comp hasn't locked up for the 7 hours I've had it on today. ^_^ Usually it seems to happen like every 3 hours or so. I'm gonna keep on deleting the stuff I can, and tweaking around with it. Iron_Ian |

Muchos good news - Haven't had another freezeup yet :) Thats 20+ hours without any problems ^_^ Anyways, right now I'm killing things off of my desktop, and trying to get rid of some of the crap I don't need on my comp. So I'll do that for a few days, then I'll see how War3 acts on me. I was actually in the editor a bit today. Looking at some models I downloaded. ^_^ Iron_Ian |

Typing this from my Dad's computer - I now know why my comp has been freezing up. It's overheating. Damn thing starting making wierd noises on me and shut itself off. So I took off the case, and touched the CPU fan, and it just about burned my hand. I dunno why I never cracked open the case b4, and checked it out. The CPU fan must not be working right or something. Theres a shitload of dust in there too (I cleaned it out not too long ago, I'm surprised that its already clogged with dust). So I'm gonna let it cool off for a bit, then vacuum it out. I had been running Warcraft III just a few minutes before it shutdown. I was on my way to post here, to inform you guys, that my comp made it through watching "The Lair of Murcielago" without freezing on me. I just hope that everything is okay, and nothing got fried. If everything still works okay, I'll probably be back on my comp later tonight, or tommorow morning. Iron_Ian |

ha ha ha ha ha, wow hope your things are alright. my comp usually sees only 4-5 hours of sleep within a 24 hour day. But then again my cpu fan does resemble that of a jet engine plus now that you mentioned it........one whole side of my tower is gone, giving me a perfect view of my setup. No overheating here ^_^ Anyways I am fighting grannies to get to a scanner but people around here are stubborn liitle basterds. I'll find one and when i do i'll send you all the things i have Iron. |

Hey alright Metropolis, looking forward to seeing some of your drawings. I guess thats what I'll have to do, keep the cover off. Either that, or I'll buy an extra fan and stick it in there. Not even sure if its really overheating or if the processor is more like burning up. Ah well I'll keep an eye on it, for now on I'm pretty much back in business ^_^ EDIT: Argh, f'ing thing rebooted itself on me. I dunno if the processor is really overheating or not, mighta just been me. Cause my comp wasn't hot when it rebooted itself. So um... yeah I'm just gonna uh... f*** around I guess. I think I'll get a new harddrive off of newegg.com in a day or so. EDIT 2: Just got AIDA32, and found out my CPU is running at 133 degrees F. I'm gonna turn it off in a sec, and run off to the store to get another fan. Iron_Ian |
