How to Change Names in-game

I am wondering if there is a way to change to proper name of heros in-game, I have looked through the triggers and I can not figer out how. I also wonder if there is a way to change the name of units and if there is does it affect what unit type they are?

No and no. There was a thread on this a while ago, and unless you actually hack into the wc3 files, there's no way.

I would just make a duplicate hero with a different proper name and use triggers to replace the hero when needed. Its still the same hero with same abils (dunno about items or if you use them), and it now has the proper name. You can do the same for units, just make a duplicate unit with a different name and use trigger actions like unit - remove and unit - create.

Yes, that would work and I was thinking of it myself, but normally when people want to change names its because they want the player to change names, and you cant do that.

Actually it is possible, NOTD 2 uses this feature and it is quite nice.

No they use the change player name trigger which is completely different from changing a heroes proper name or a units name.

do you mean the name inside the exp thing if you are you have to take the code and change it just like you change the name of summon timer. i know it is possible but im not exactly sure how to get into that but i know i have seen it mentioned.

ok, if your just talking about changing the name of a unit in a custom map all you do is go to object editor and click which hero/unit. then go down to bottom area and change name for exp thing Ex. paladin and proper name by making a string(s).

But if your talking about changing the name of a unit during the game using a trigger no it isnt possible but you make a custom unit and use a replace trigger...........
